      Account Manager SMB Interview

      Jan 3, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Egham, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner (Egham, England) in Oct 2012

      Interview

I first approached Gartner through LinkedIn. I found a job ad for the role I am currently holding and applied on Linkedin. I was contacted after less than one hour by Gartner HR Manager for a first 5 min call where we agreed to speak more in depth later on that same day. In the second call the recruiter described a little bit the company and the position, asking at the same time about me and my current job and why I thought I would be a good fit for the role I applied for - it lasted about 40 min. We agreed to have the first, real interview call after a couple of days and the recruiter explained to me what are the main traits Gartner looks for in a successful candidate. She also sent me an email to confirm the meeting, with the job description and a short company description attached. The interview lasted a little longer than one hour and I was asked several "deep" questions, like what is the thing that drives me in my professional life, where do I see myself in the next 5 years, what have been my most successful professional experiences so far, and so forth. At the end the recruiter gave me a feedback pointing out the things in her opinion matched more with the profile she was looking for and also highlighting her perplexities on a couple of points that I didn't make clear enough, pushing me to be bold and "ask" for the next interview with the manager. The next interview was quite tough, because the manager behaved in order not to make me feel comfortable, to see how would I react. Anyway I had the chance to talk for a while, introducing myself and my background and explaining why I would be the best fit for the role. We then went into some numbers in order to bring some concreteness to the interview. At the end the manager asked me to write a short summary of the call to the recruiter, putting him in CC, and explaining how I did and what I would do differently if I could go back. After a couple of days the HR called me thanking me for that and confirmed that I'll be moving to the next and final step: flying to London to meet the manager and to have the final one-on-one interview, as well as the panel interview. She then sent me some more information via email in order for me to prepare to the last step. Once there the HR manager showed me a little bit around and kindly offered me something to drink as we waited for the manager to come. The manager and I, then, went through the same passages we went through during the call, but more in depth. He also asked me what would I do if things weren't to be going good, if I would quit or put more effort into it. We also talked numbers and he showed me the building, the team and some other things. The final step, the panel interview, involved my area manager, another area manager and a regional vice president. I did pretty well, considering that I don't come from a commercial/sales background and at the end I was asked to perform an auto check on what I think I did good and what not, in order to provide myself a feedback before receiving theirs. I was asked, in the end, some more personal questions in order to get to know each other with the two people I did not met before. In total 3 phone calls with the HR manager, 1 phone call with the manager, 1 one-on-one interview and 1 panel interview. I really enjoyed the recruiting process as I kept learning more and more at every step, about the company and the position, as well as about myself, my objectives and my professional goals. I saw myself growing and learning throughout the whole process and I am sure that this is what they saw too and what they are looking for in successful candidates. I am really satisfied and proud to be part of this company now, where I am sure I will do great as all the amazing people around me are doing.

      Anonymous employee
      Barcelona
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner (Barcelona) in Apr 2019

      Interview

The interview process was composed of five steps. 4 steps were interviews on the phone with recruiters, steps number 3 and 4 including a little sales role-play. The final step was in person in the Barcelona office with the recruiter that was there since the beginning of the process, a manager and the VP of sales. Overall, the process was very smooth and I was very well accompanied receiving constructive feedback (very helpful!) from the recruiter between each step. They really want you to do well and give you all the info you need to succeed. Special thanks to Roberta !

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner (Egham, England)

      Interview

4 rounds of interviews: 1. Initial phone call & Gartner Introduction 2. Phone call consisting of "Tell me a time when" questions 3. Continuation of stage 2 with more detail and a phone call role play 4. Assessment day with another role play From my experience the recruitment process overall was excellent. It was was well organised and they gave candidates tangible feedback on how to improve. The company is big on coaching and likes people who can take advise and continually develop. If you have done sales before it should be challenging but not too difficult. Also make sure you apply for other jobs simultaneously as I feel the company took me more seriously when they knew I was applying for multiple roles.
