      Account Executive Interview

      Sep 11, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Groupon (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

I submitted a resume online. The position had already been filled but I was contacted by a recruiter months later. He interviewed me then set me up for a Skype interview with the hiring manager a few days later. I had to answer some basic math questions for the recruiter (if a $20 item is on sale for 40% off, how much is it?). IV with hiring manager was fairly easy and somewhat rushed. I tried to get specific answers on some topics such as territory structure, account management, etc. and had a hard time getting any straight info, but he told me he wanted to interview with his manager. THAT interview, also via Skype, was less than 10 minutes. He asked if I had any questions, I asked the first one and he started to answer, then told me he had to go to another meeting but liked me. After that I had one more convo with the hiring manager and again tried to pin down specifics. Kept getting vague reassurances from him and couldn't get the info I needed to REALLY figure out if I would have a legitimate chance to make a good commission, what goals were like, etc. I felt like he was getting annoyed so I finally let it go but frankly, I should have pursued it harder bc the numbers didn't add up like he said he would once I was in the territory. Recruiter did a great job keeping me informed during the whole process and answering what questions he could. According to others in my training class, I had, by far, the easiest IV process. Most of the others (for all positions) had at least 5 interviews. One of the inside reps I talked to had SEVEN, including a stint where they told him to come in for a one-hour IV at 9 am, then proceeded to leave him there in an empty conference room and periodically bring in other people who wanted to meet or interview him - he was there for over 4 hours without so much as a bottle of water. Seriously? Crazy!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Nothing weird/unexpected. Make sure you understand how the money works (Groupon keeps half) and can express why that would be beneficial for clients, and be ready to rattle off some of the first prospects you'd go after and why.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Groupon (Chicago, IL) in Jan 2024

      Interview

Phone Call interview with recruiter. She invited me to go for the next steps. I was scheduled for a 1 hour google meet with managers. That interview was canceled two days beforehand by another recruiter that I never even spoke with, she said she canceled all existing interviews due to "hiring pause" and that she will reach out as soon as they can reschedule. I emailed both recruiters after I received that message and no response! Pretty unprofessional, unorganized, and lack of communication. During this same time, I have interviewed with other large companies and the recruiters were better at every single company.

      Interview

I was contacted by a really lovely HR representative for an introductory call. I got a really good sense of the company and role just in that first call. I was updated regularly and given lots of opportunities to ask questions and to gain feedback.
