I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Highmark Health
Highmark Health interview bait-and-switch I had a call with a recruiter from Highmark Health to set up an interview with a hiring manager for the position. I asked if it would be a complete technical interview, but I was told not to prepare for it since it wouldn't be a technical interview. I came to the interview expecting to discuss my background, culture fit questions, and behavioral questions, as discussed by the recruiter previously. However, the interview turned into a full-blown technical interview after discussing my background. Since I was not mentally prepared for a technical interview, my anxiety kicked in and I stumbled on my words. I was disappointed that the recruiter did not give me accurate information about the interview format. This made it difficult for me to perform my best, and it ultimately hurt my chances of getting the job. I would advise other job seekers to be cautious when recruiters tell them that an interview will not be technical. It is always a good idea to be prepared for anything, even if you are told otherwise.

Very easy and simple interview. Denied the job to me with no explanation but the people are friendly and I would recommend applying. Did a phone interview then had to do a couple video interviews with management.

The interview questions were very easy questions, only lasted about 15 minutes long. There were two interviews in a zoom. The schedule is est time zone. 6 weeks of training.
- What do you like about being remote.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Highmark Health (Pittsburgh, PA) in Jul 2023
The interviewers were nice, always encouraged me to introduce myself more, and gave a lot of positive feedback. The interview process was smooth and the contact through email was polite.
- Introduce your past experiences. How would you picture yourself in a few years?

First interview was 2 months after I applied, with the hiring manager. Went well, very professional. General questions, get to know you etc. A month later, I had a second-round interview with 2 employees who were peers of the role to be filled. The questions weren't too difficult, mostly behavioral (STAR-method) questions and some about my resume. I was challenged by one of them on was I truly qualified for the role. I don't know if that was to test me for a reaction or if they didn't like that I was being considered for the role. I then had a third-around interview with 2 people who worked for a consulting company that Highmark Health does business with for product development. One of them was dressed as one might expect to see someone who plays online video games...the other appeared as if he wanted to be anywhere else but in the interview. The questions were mostly behavioral. The recruiter advised afterward that I would know next steps by the end of the following week. That never happened. I emailed the recruiter with no reply. I also followed-up with the hiring manager two weeks after the third-round interview, no reply. A few days later, the recruiter said a decision hadn't been made yet. Suggestion: Keep the process to 1 month maximum.
- Mostly STAR-method questions, questions to elicit more details than my resume provided.

1:1 interview with the manager was very strange. He asked things like "do you have kids who will distract you while working remote?" He talked down about unions (this is a union covered position). Neither he nor HR rep extending the offer would describe the benefits of this position stating "you'll receive orientation on benefits through the union on your first day." So many major red flags
- Describe how you manage your time and multitask.

Very easy and straight forward this was not the case for everyone though a lot of talk about recruiter promising lower pay, once hired you will be required to take assessments until training is complete you will not move forward if you don't pass.
- What is your preferred management style?

The people were kind of rude but it was an average Teams interview with two members of the small team. It lasted around 15-20 minutes, but probably because I asked a lot of questions at the end.
- One example question is: What have you learned about yourself this week?

The interview process was laid back and great. Felt more like a conversation rather than an interview. My interviewer was interested in learning about my journey rather than focusing strictly on my resume.
- Do you feel you can apply your current skills in healthcare to the insurance industry and if so how do you see those skills transferring over?
