Interviews at MEMIC

Anonymous Interview Candidate
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at MEMIC in Jan 2023
The interview was very generic and is one of the most corporate interviews I've ever done. You could probably look up the 10 most popular interview questions and they would ask you those. I even answered one of their questions coincidentally earlier in the interview and they still asked me the question again.
- Tell me about a time you met a tight deadline
- How do you manage your time?

Well organized, nice managers. Interview questions were mostly standard, a lot of tell me a time when type of questions. The team members interviewing me were all super welcoming and nice!!
- Tell me a time when you had to...

The office was old and dingy. Their questions were so generic, they didn't seem to care about my actual skills. So focused on "what if" questions. I view interviews as me also interviewing them, so it felt like they weren't trying to impress me.
- Tell me about a time you made a mistake and had to fix it.

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at MEMIC (Dover, NH) in Aug 2020
It was basic and generic interview questions. The recruiter I spoke to seemed new or just unsure how to have a basic conversation it was very strange. The reason I’m leaving a review is because she assured me they would reach out in a day or two for next steps and it’s now been 3 weeks without any communication. Obviously I didn’t get the job, but if someone takes the time to fill out the application, write a cover letter, submit their resume, and take time out of their day to interview the VERY least they can do is send an email saying they are moving forward with other candidates. I’ll be sure to tell others not to bother with this company.
- Why do you feel you’re a good fit for this position?

I was scheduled for a phone interview with HR first. Shortly thereafter she emailed me an appointment with the Manager and Supervisor of Customer Service/Operations. They were both very pleasant. They made me feel comfortable because they were friendly. The manager went over my previous experience in Customer Service and seemed impressed with my background. I didn't feel like she was interrogating me as I did with previous employers. She went over what I would be doing the first couple of weeks that might seem boring.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at MEMIC (Portland, ME) in May 2018
First of all, they advertise the application as "underwriting trainee" when it is not for the underwriting trainee position, as it doesn't exist at MEMIC. The recruiter said they do it to get more people to apply, and the actual position is for "account analyst". I lost quite a lot of interest in the job after I heard that. It seemed that to become an actual underwriter would take a few years and is at least 3 promotions away. The only good from the interview was they were upfront about the salary, which was $40,000 in this case. Seemed pretty low, there are better paying jobs out there. This job posting has been up for a long time, and it would appear they have issues hiring people as they have many other postings as well. I would suggest that they not false advertise a job that like as it turns many of us away. Also, the phone interview was nearly an hour long and asked very repetitive, sometimes, weird questions.
- what can you tell me about MEMIC?
- what are you strengths?
- What would a friend or coworker say about you?

I applied online and had a phone screen set up for a few days after I applied. Most questions were general interview questions you would expect, others were a little more difficult. I interviewed about a week after my phone screen, it was multiple group interviews that lasted about 1/1.5 hours in total. I received a job offer about a month after I applied. The recruiter was great and kept me updated throughout the process!

Telephone process with long dead silence on the phone when you could hear the interviews talking under their breath. Very rude. Long delays and no rhyme or reason to the questioning.
- Why do you want the job

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MEMIC (Portland, ME) in Apr 2015
Entire process was about 3-4 weeks. Only one web interview (though I was out-of-state so they made this exception for me). The interview was with a senior in corporate finance and the director of finance and premium audit. After being declined for the finance/audit internship, I was immediately offered a position as the Underwriting intern.

I applied through other source. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at MEMIC (Portland, ME) in Jan 2015
I was called two weeks after applying for a phone screen. A formal interview followed two weeks later. The interview consisted of a Wonderlic test and a three person panel with direct managers for the position ( 1.5 hours long). A second interview was scheduled two weeks after the first interview. The second interview was with two senior managers and lasted 30 minutes.I waited over a week for a offer.
