Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at MICROS Systems

Interview

Initial interview with HR went great. Second interview, the hiring manager called me out of the blue wondering why I didn't answer my phone on the first ring. There was no interview set up ahead of time and my phone was almost dead, so that made things interesting. I thought the interview went well. I offered several times to fly down and interview in person so the company wouldn't have to pay the expense, then they finally told me I was out of the running. They lead me on for at least a couple months. This was the most unprofessional interview process I have seen for a large company (Oracle recently acquired them). If the company is anything like the interview process, then I'm glad they didn't offer me the job.

One skill test unrelated to role. Two interviews, one with my boss and one with boss's boss. Was expecting questions to be more vague and personality based but they were very PM and role specific.

Interview

Easy going 1 on 1 talk with the section manager. CV was discussed and where my strengths lie. Nothing fancy, fairly straight forward. He presented some work pieces that they have done and what I would be working on.

Cleared all interviews but was kept on hold to receive offer letter for more than 6 months because of the merger with Oracle. I was told approvals are required from Oracle but looks like they simply rejected the Micros recruitment process which took about another 2 months.
