      Director of Talent Acquisition Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Opendoor

      Interview

I received an InMail from a high level representative on the People Team about a Head of Talent position several months back. I was a passive candidate at the time and decided to take the call and learn more about Opendoor. After an introductory call with the person running the search, I decided not to pursue the opportunity initially but was left feeling intrigued about Opendoor. Several months later my situation changed and I decided to reconnect with the person that initially reached out to see if the opportunity was still available. Unfortunately, Opendoor had decided to put a hold on the search and has opted to hire a VP of HR. Although disappointed, this sounded like the right move given Opendoor's growth. Nothing was unorthodox about the interview process up to this point. What transpired next was utterly shocking. I asked the representative at Opendoor if he'd like to grab coffee for networking purposes since the recruiting world is so small. I hired the VP of HR at my current company and thought I may be able to provide some helpful guidance on the search. Unfortunately, the representative from Glassdoor rescheduled our coffee meeting 5 or 6 times over a 1 month period. I tried to give this individual the benefit of the doubt initially, but after the last reschedule this morning 1 hour before our meeting I decided that this person doesn't deserve to be . The interaction with this gentleman was one of the worst professional experiences I've ever had. Excuses used: "things are a mess here for me personally" and "trying to juggle too many pieces". Recommendation to the recruiting team at Opendoor: If you're too busy for a meeting you should respectfully decline it.
