I interviewed at the Panda Express corporate office in Rosemead CA. I was interviewed by the hiring manager and a person from HR. I spoke to the hiring manager and had a very good technical conversation. The hiring manager told me I had the skills that they were looking for and I would be a good fit for their team. This is when things started to go down hill. After my technical discussion, the HR person piped up and started to tell me about their company philosophy. The CEO's wife believe's in some weird philosophy that she expects all full time hires to adhere too. After hearing the HR person's rambling of said belief system. I felt like they were trying to indoctrinate me into some weird religious cult. They wanted me to purchase loads of books in this said philosophy and spend the next 6 months brainwashing myself (at my own cost) into this belief system. Only then would they consider hiring me if I passed their tests (spacemen ring a bell?) They asked me how I felt about this and I told them they came off sounding like some weird religious cult. I'm sure this is illegal in the state of California. All full time employees of the company are expected to attend weekend workshops to worship said belief process. I was then told that if I joined as a contractor, I did not need to brainwash myself into this process. But if I wanted to join full time, I needed to learn this mindset. The hiring manager told me how frustrated they were with this process and they had lost many good hires because of this. It was such a weird interview process. I told them I had no interest in learning their weird company philosophy and had no interest in pursuing my application any further. I've spoken to other recruitment companies about Panda Express and they also told me many people walk away from the company after hearing this. Don't waste your time being interviewed here, unless you want to join their religious cult.
