Very professional and kind people during the interview process. There are two interview process when I went through with it. You both agree with a time and date of the interview. The interview ended up be relax and professional. All in all, it was a good experince.
- We work with many outsource studios and there may be a time of disagreement between the two of you. How will you deal with the situation.

It was pretty quick interview. They expect you to know everything, even though your applying for an internship. It maybe better to just apply for a job as internships are temporary not to mention that its a high turn over field.
- How would you handle a irate coworker?

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Treyarch (Los Angeles, CA) in Nov 2022
The interview is a 2 to 3 step process, each step involving video calls with various members of the team, from fellow employees at your skill level to directors and managers. A technical test was not given during the interview process.
- What made you decide to step into the game development industry?

The interview was with an HR. They were very courteous, punctual and respectful. The call was on phone at a scheduled time of 30 minutes. They explained in detail about the position and left a chunk of time in the end for my questions.
- Why do you want to work at Treyarch? What games am I playing?

My interview experience at Treyarch was very positive. The whole process took about 2-3 weeks. There were ~3 interviews: one interview with the lead followed by a few more group interviews.
- Talk more about your projects and the techniques you used to achieve certain features.

Interviewers are nice but the whole process was so slow. Took me 3 months to finish two rounds. There is a code test right after the second round but it was easy.
- First round is general c++ knowledge and linear algebra. But second round is almost improvise, like how to implement a functionality in game. And there is a code test right after the second round but it was easy

The interview process starts with a recruiter call, then a call with a tech person to go over your background. After this, you then get a call with 2 people where you do live coding. If you pass this, you then get the on-site interview where you have multiple calls with different groups who go over different technical or practical skills.
- What is a dot product?

Great people overall! Typical number of rounds. I recommend going in with a good background for a better chance. Review any gaming programming books. Do career fairs with them as well if you are in college.
- They give a take home test first, then in-person.

Multi-step technical interviews with a panel as a final where you get asked deep technical questions and live code with an engineer about 5 problems. They don't expect perfection but they expect you to act on tips and direction.
- Custom C++ questions on search, bit manipulation, 3D Math and OOP

I applied online. I interviewed at Treyarch in Feb 2021
I applied for the level design internship in December and it was about a two-and-a-half-month process from start to finish. Overall it was a drawn-out process with lots of radio silence in between, and the recruiter was sluggish with correspondence. They made me record a six-minute video submission where I talked about my interests in Treyarch and about my design process. I submitted it last and then we moved on to the next process a few weeks later where they sent me a design test. The design test was challenging and interesting. I liked that I got to design a 2D map in the spirit of the COD multiplayer maps. It took me about 36 hours to complete. At least I made it to the interview stage. The two back-to-back zoom interviews were the most difficult stage. I’ll preface by saying that although the senior recruiter scheduled zoom calls, not once did anyone show their face on the video call so they were essentially phone calls. The first pair of interviews was supposed to be with a pair of level designers, but one of them couldn’t make it because he was sick so the other LD interviewed me alone. She was actually pleasant to talk to and I felt comfortable while I was answering her questions about my learning process and what I would do in different design situations. The second pair of interviews took place right after with two other designers. The interview with the second pair was about as pleasant as a car accident. One of them was late. Once we got started, they asked me about what I would do if I got feedback I didn’t agree with and or if I had leadership experience. Throughout the interview, both of them sounded disinterested and groggy, as if they’d just gotten out of bed. One of them used esoteric terms (terms they presumably use at Treyarch) towards level design which have the effect of alienating the interviewee (since they are outsiders to Treyarch). Two or three of the questions were difficult and probed my familiarity with the COD franchise, particularly the Black Ops games. The most difficult questions had to do with the COD games broadly, such as what feature of Black Ops I liked and which could use improvement. I will admit that my lack of familiarity with the most recent COD games was a liability on my part and probably cost me the internship. Not once did they ask me about my design test or my design process or my prior projects. From what I could tell, it sounded like the interviewers were picking questions off a piece of paper with no broader pattern to what they were asking. Compared with the interview I just had before, this one felt deflated from the start. I have to say I’m surprised by how many hoops applicants have to jump through just for a three-month internship. At the end, they wouldn’t even give me feedback on either my design test or my interview.
- What feature of Black Ops would you improve and why?
