I applied online on 2/12. 2/13 I got an email that my app was being forwarded to someone to review. 2/14 I got an email they wanted me to do a video interview (within 5 days.) I did this video interview on 2/18. I did this in my dining room with a window behind me. Make sure you have good lighting and look professional. This isn’t like skype, it’s through a system called HireVue and there are 6 questions it prompts, gives you 30 seconds and you record your answer. This wasn’t hard at all, except the last question was “Tell us anything else you would like United to know about you.” (I figured I’d pretty well explained that in the first question.) 2/23 around noon I got an email for a f2f. They do these interviews in Chicago, Houston, Newark, NJ, & Cali. If you live within 4 hours they ask you to drive, otherwise you can fly. I live near Indianapolis, & she asked if I wanted to fly to Houston or Chicago. I told her I’d just like to drive to Chicago. The more I thought about it, I wanted to fly rather than maneuver my way around a huge city when I knew I’d be a nervous wreck. So I called and asked if they could fly me, literally two days before my interview, and they said sure no problem and emailed me a ticket. My interview was set up for March 9th. They do interviews everyday and fill up quick, that’s why it was scheduled so far out. My flight went out of Indy around 4:30 and my flight returning was around 6, however I missed it and got put on the next flight around 7 (that was no issue at all.) They do not pay for anything, by the way, they fly you, transportation, food, hotel, ect is on you. I arrived at the Willis Tower for my interview around 8:30 (interview was at 9). I gave a copy of my resume and letter of recommendation. Letter of recommendation will make you stand out, I’ve been told, so bring one! It can’t hurt!! There were a few flight attendants and some managers who came in and gave us a small presentation, answered questions and spoke about the job. This probably lasted 20 minutes. Everything else is a waiting game. There were 10 of us, and 2 interviewers. We were called one by one to interview. I was maybe number 5 called back, and this was around 11:30. The interview went well, lasted a half hour maybe. He asked me to stay for the second round of interviews. I happily agreed, and because there were more people to interview he said I could go eat lunch and come back in an hour. The last person who got called did not get this privilege; he got ten minutes to use the restroom and had to come back. So bring snacks, you could be the last one called, because I don’t believe it is in any certain order. 9 of us returned out of 10. This time it was a panel interview. I was second to last to be called. There were only 2 of us who flew, I couldn’t understand why they took me back so late. I thought it went well, however I got an email in a week saying thanks but no thanks. Everyone in Chicago gets an email; no one gets a job offer the same day. I got one girl’s number in the interview, and she got a phone call the following day telling her she got it and she scheduled her training date. They will send you out soon, 2-3 week usually. Training is in Houston unpaid, however they give you $140 a week on a prepaid visa for dinner. Breakfast is provided by the hotel they put you in, and lunch they provide at the training facility. Uniforms are $720 that get taken out of your check over the course of around a year. Overall it was a wonderful experience; I gained interviewing skills and got to experience Chicago for the first time. The questions on glass door helped me tremendously!! I wore a pencil skirt and white button up and heels, had my hair in a ponytail and pantyhose. The one girl’s number I got had the same on but without hose and had her hair down. So don’t listen to people when they tell you that you HAVE to dress as an FA to get the job. You do not, however it may help. I had mentioned I wanted to do this because I had a friend who got hired with PSA airlines. I didn’t mention that I didn’t apply for PSA, only united because I wanted United. Maybe that’s why I didn’t get hired. I’m not sure. Anyways, I posted the questions from the interview I remember. The video interview asked what makes me a good candidate, name a misconception others may have about you, and name anything else you'd like united to know about you. In the interview- (it won't let me add anymore questions) Describe a time when you had to deal with a difficult co-worker, what did you do? I said, At my current job, there was one employee who kept making minute mistakes. I talked to her about them one day and asked her if she was having trouble with something, and it turned out she was too scared to ask questions as she didn’t want to feel dumb. Once I talked to her and lifted her spirits, she was more confident in asking questions and therefore her error rate dropped tremendously. Hope this helps, best of luck to all!!
