I recently interviewed via phone for a part-time position at Wegmans and unfortunately had a very negative experience. The recruiter I spoke with was cold and unfriendly from the start. There was no effort to make the conversation feel human or welcoming, which made the whole interview feel uncomfortable and off-putting.
The questions themselves were mostly straightforward behavioral questions like "Tell me about a time you worked with another team" and "What would you do if someone did something differently than you?" One question stood out as more complex — "How do you ensure your words and actions are inclusive?" — and while I answered honestly, it was clear from the recruiter's tone that I didn’t give the response she was looking for. However, no guidance or follow-up was offered, just a chilly pivot to the next question.
Overall, the experience felt less like a conversation and more like an interrogation. I left the call confused and disheartened. It felt as if the recruiter had already decided I wasn’t the right fit before we even started talking.
I’m sharing this not to discourage people from applying, but to set expectations. I hope others have a more supportive and respectful experience, but mine left a lot to be desired.
