I worked at Hughes Network Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good variety of technology.
Lots of opportunities for challenging work & growth.
This company has survived through A Lot of challenges & keeps producing/surviving.

    Cons

Your work/life balance varied greatly depending on which VP you were under/project you were on.
Tool support for embedded SW was sub-par for most of my 20 years with them.
Aside from grad school tuition help, the company was historically not good about promoting technical staff's technical development.

    Advice to Management

Given the ups & downs this company has survived, I can't fault them for anything specifically at C-suite level. If I were still there as an embedded developer, I would like to see more tool support for debugging & analysis work.

I have been working at Hughes Network Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Cutting edge SD-WAN products.

Company has gone global in the past year on top of an already strong domestic U.S showing.

Friendly work environment overall, and a lot of onsite perks and benefits.

    Cons

The company refuses to modernize with remote options (strongly pushes against this principle).

Organization is top heavy, with a strong sense of 1% making 99% of the money.

    Advice to Management

Open up a bit more to modern day principles in the workplace, pay your employees fair living wages/growth perspectives.

I have been working at Hughes Network Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very great environment . I love how it’s not very stressful when it comes to getting your work done. The people on my team are fantastic to work with. I have a nice manager.

    Cons

I don’t really know if I have any company cons yet. It’s only been a year so I am just trying to learn as much as possible in order to exceed and meet their expectations.

    Advice to Management

    Be more specific

I have been working at Hughes Network Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salaries are competitive, and the company offers some other nice financial benefits such as a discount on company stock. The company is stable and profitable and there is certainly something to be said for that. So it's safe to say your job will be secure and you will get a merit increase every year as long as your performance is good. I've heard that most people who work in the Germantown main campus are happy.

    Cons

The 401K match and vesting schedule is not competitive. Full-time employees don't get enough PTO. The stress level in the Gaithersburg manufacturing facility is very high and blame-shifting amongst various departments is rampant. Leadership is stuck in the past and believes in working harder, not smarter. They perpetuate the idea that Millennials have poor work ethic. Most employees have old tower computers instead of laptops which is intentional so that no one has the flexibility to work from home. The company does not offer paid parental leave.

    Advice to Management

If the company wants to remain competitive when it comes to recruiting talented new-hires, they need to get serious about offering work-from-home or flexible scheduling benefits. Other companies are moving forward and Hughes is going to be left behind.

    Cons

This place is a sweat shop - they run off talented employees. They actively poach talent promising steak and caviar then serving hot dogs

I have been working at Hughes Network Systems (More than a year)

    Pros

Great money. I got paid weekly. Biggest check was about 2200 in one week, but averaged about 1200 a week.

    Cons

Scheduling was a nightmare. There were days were I spent 8-9 hours driving between jobs. Only 1 day off a week, but every contracting company is different.
