I worked at Jive Software full-time

    Pros

It depends on your perspective. If you compare working for Jive to working for some other poorly rated company than you might find some pros. If you compare Jive to even just an average software company you will not find any pros. Those that existed died with the acquisition (if they aren't gone yet they are on their way out the door).

    Cons

The company was acquired by Aurea Software in 2017. Aurea has crushed the culture and is slowly eroding the customer base. Jive is a sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

It is too late to give advice to upper management. Also, they don't care what anyone has to say.

I worked at Jive Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The OG Jive folks still around are a good group
No HR department to speak of, could also be a con
Worksmart hasn't been implemented yet, so you won't have keystroke tracking and periodic screenshot requirements yet

    Cons

Functionally incompetent management who lack creative ideas
Mandatory keystroke logging and periodic screenshot and webcam software eventually required for all regular employees
Innovation consists of copying another company but "doing it better and cheaper"

    Advice to Management

Start over with your own ideas instead of just trying to copy others, make an attempt to innovate. Stop being the Dollar Store of software.

I worked at Jive Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was a challenging and fun place to work until the acquisition.

    Cons

With the acquisition, away went the culture, offices, people.

    Advice to Management

New management is not the type to listen to advice.

I worked at Jive Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The CEO when I was there Tony Zingale was inspirational.
The CFO when I was there Bryan LeBlanc was awesome and transparent.
Free flowing beer and wine and in areas good culture in PDX.
The internal instance of their own software was a fantastic communications tool, and helped make the workplace fun, as well as being a very efficient tool for work communications.

    Cons

Engineering management, Tech Ops management, IT management, Sales management, Marketing management all were Cons.

Basically couldn't build it well, couldn't run it well, couldn't sell it well.

Moving the HQ to the Bay Area was a Con

Engineering & Tech Ops management was mostly self-serving empire-builders, especially the "Big Data" experts brought in to wasta tone of money failing to build a functional SAAS product.

The entire Israeli company purchase seemed to be a massive waste of money to buy a company of the most cowboy-coding engineers I have encountered.

I worked at Jive Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Great friendly team
    -Supportive Manager
    -Flexible work schedule
-Growth and career paths are very clear

    Cons

    -Solving boring problems
-Polo shirt tucked into white khaki pants culture
    -Loud, sales bro culture
-Product innovation was going the wrong direction

I joined Jive through an acquisition. I was originally on a sales team and made a base of 30k. I worked hard not only doing sales but marketing, support, and account management. By the end of my career at the original company I was making 130k a year. When Jive took me on they said that since I wasn't in a commission based position they would have to decrease my salary. So I joined on and made 70k. It took me 6 months for them to give me a raise to 85k. Still not even close to what I was making. I really liked my team and especially my boss. He was such an amazing, supportive guy. I just got extremely bored and didn't believe that the product would survive.

    Pros

There's a lot of doors open since everyone has jumped ship. As long as you are OK with being a contractor.

    Cons

After Aurea has taken over, executive leadership is worthless. Company progress and knowledge has tanked.

    Advice to Management

Aurea needs to figure out how to work WITH Jive not against it. Also figuring out that employees aren't a metric/number might be a good place to start. New contracted employees business model is going to hurt.

I worked at Jive Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Jive was once a great company full of amazing, talented people. Management was open and honest and really cared about their team and the well-being of its members. The product was and still is something I cannot imagine working without. My co-workers were wonderful and I always looked forward to coming into the office. One of the best places I have ever had the privilege to work for.

    Cons

As soon as Jive was acquired things went down hill. The Aurea management teams are abysmal and incompetent their VP's were inexperienced, unprofessional and completely out of touch. If I wasn't watching a company that I love fall apart, it would have been comical how terrible the Aurea people I had to 'work' with were. The CEO is great at insulting the company and employees and at making the women in his meetings feel incredibly uncomfortable with his word choices. Jive is a sinking ship thanks to how poorly this acquisition was handled.

    Advice to Management

Jive managers are still fighting the good fight against what I am sure feels like impossible odds. I feel for you and hope you can get out asap but I know you are more worried about your direct reports getting out than yourselves because that is how Jive management is.

Aurea management needs to listen to those who know Jive and ask for help when they are in over their heads and unsure how to move forward. Be accountable for your role and for your reports, tell your people when they are doing a good job, be involved, MANAGE!

Advice to Scott - get a thesaurus and a clue.
