    Pros

So many great people work at this company in lower roles, encourages training and development, and I truly enjoy my role.

    Cons

No leadership, 98% of those in executive roles should not be there, no communication, the executive cliques are painful to watch, as if they cannot function without each other.

    Advice to Management

Hire someone from outside to run the company and make many changes

I worked at OSIsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

OSIsoft provides a fantastic product mix and top support to its customers. They hire intelligent people and work hard to provide the best products in their category. If you are good in a sales role and understand process industries such as paper, gas, chemical or oil, you can make great money - I sure did!

    Cons

I did not always feel that top management cares about the sales division. The sales team seems to be treated as a necessary evil.

I worked at OSIsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This was my first job out of college and I was given many opportunities to learn and contribute during my tenure at osisoft.

OSIsoft attracts smart, driven people to engineering and tech support. The culture isn't stressful, but that comes with the expectation that you'll get the work done. You can learn a lot here as a developer if it's your first job.

Near a Bart station in the Bay area which is a huge plus.

Awesome culture! We have a company band that was formed by employees, there is a competitive ping pong culture, and there are lots of opportunities to meet new people through classes and volunteer opportunities.

Definitely apply if it's your first job. Depending on how the reorg goes, it can be an amazing place to work.

    Cons

The pay is below average and the tech stack doesn't allow one to develop transferable skills (it's a Windows shop, which isn't bad but can be limiting depending on what you're looking for).

Poor communication between decision makers and people who have to implement things. There is a lot of "putting the cart before the horse" and "solution in search of a problem" when it comes to new product development. This can frustrating because customers (either through sales or other feedback channels) will want simple features that are never implemented because the priorities of the decision makers aren't synced up with sales (or they're just dismissing what sales has to say).

There is also a lot of politics and cliques. The company used to be pretty flat for a software company, which led to lots of unspoken structures/hierarchies in engineering.

It's extremely unclear what the CEO does.

    Advice to Management

Listen to sales and the feedback they have. Many were engineers and have domain experience and know what our customers need. Remove communication barriers between engineering and sales. The company has grown a lot and has lost the culture that enabled OSIsoft to succeed in the past. Also understand it's not the 80s and 90s anymore. Other companies know how to write good software. OSIsoft can't get by by being the only company providing certain features. Anybody can provide what OSIsoft provides, but nobody has been able to support their software as well as OSIsoft, focus on quality and support, not just shiny toys.

    Pros

I work with very intelligent but sociable people. They do a good job of making sure they hire both competent and friendly people who will work well together. The market for the product doesn't seem to be going away. Engineering management is doing a good job transitioning us from a small company to a medium-sized company, with a focus on career development and consistent organizational hierarchy. Individual managers are tasked with not only keeping the teams running smoothly, but also with checking in on employees to keep them on track with their career goals.

    Cons

Really, no complaints. I guess I wish the organizational changes that are going on now had happened sooner. So if you want to call this a con, maybe slow to change.
