High work load

Pros

None, there is really no reason to come work in claims with this organization.

Cons

Work load is extremely high and not manageable. Executives are out of touch with the employees and don't care if you are overworked. To quote an executive "There is no limit on the amount of claims one can expect to receive and you handle all the claims that are in your territory" This means that the claims are not spread evenly throughout the teams. One team can be receiving 4x the amount of claims while another team is receiving one claim a week. The teams do not work together to help manage work loads. Management could help with this issue, but there is no teamwork throughout the claims organization so that's not going to happen. Small company that truly doesn't value their employees.

Pros

Most team members are very helpful and willing to watch your desk when you're on vacation / out sick multiple days, so you don't come back to 200+ emails to wade thru. For the most part agents and producers are a delight to work with and love OMI in return. We have a lot to be proud of with our customized services and great claims and customer satisfaction.

Cons

- Upper management has displayed a ludicrous inability to adapt to to changes in the market place with regards to work flow, time management, nor accepting suggestions on how to make improvements even with data points. This includes pricing rate, forms, and hiring sufficient staff to handle workloads needed when dealing with product development and dealing with the DOI departments in various states. - The high-level management have a "their way only" attitude; their lack of diversity and view points has led to ethical issues regarding the nationality of customers. - Furthermore there is a strong odor of sexism in addition to discrimination based on nationality as described above. I don't see females being valued. Positive feedback about female colleagues are dismissed Ad Hominem. Suggestions on process improvements with metrics are dismissed when provided by females. - Top level management does not have diversity or any advocacy for the various business silos as they've chosen to not replace upper managers who have resigned, this has been the state of upper management for over a year. These very few remaining individuals have repeatedly demonstrated if you're not going to carry their banner you're not going to be heard. - High level management forces a work-load that is not work-life balanced. They do not practice or expect equal contributions from all stake-holders across all departments; the bulk of the responsibility is thrown on the underwriting department. Requests and suggestions to alter the work flow to alleviate pain points and bottle necks have been disregarded across multiple years with these same high level managers.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience while working at Oregon Mutual and the recognition of positive working relationships within the company and with our agents. Your “CONS” comments are disappointing and do not reflect the policies of the company or our values of acceptable behavior including integrity and respect. Oregon Mutual has a 126-year history of valuing its associates and customers, many who retire from the company after long careers. Our culture and history are of equal opportunity and access for all persons, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, creed, color, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected class. We do not ask or know the ethnicity or national origin of our members and we value them all. As to a lack of diversity. Women are represented at the board, executive, and department leadership levels throughout the company, including the only two supervisors in Commercial Lines Underwriting. Our HR Department has received no same or similar complaints from any current employees, nor have we been advised of these concerns from any departing employees, in any exit interviews . We take the inferences made here very seriously as they would be a strict violation of company policy. Additionally, we are continually focused on process improvement, and recently completed Lean Six Sigma process improvement initiatives within the Underwriting Division while investing heavily in new technology. Our customers and employees have historically held us in high regard because of our great employees and continuing level of commitment to them. We regret that you did not share this concern while employed and wish you success and happiness in your new position.

Pros

My direct manager is great, very knowledgeable and very supportive.

Cons

Too much upper management, very little staff. Benefits are terrible. Upper management is not realistic with territory, staffing requirements nor concerned with addressing employee concerns.
