I worked at Ryder System (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I started with Ryder right out of the Marine Corps and was at the bottom of the pay scale and over the 8 years I worked for them I moved through several different roles up into a couple of management roles. Benefits were great, between the GI Bill and their tuition reimbursement I was able to complete my bachelors and masters degree. It was a good family oriented environment.

    Cons

The account I managed had a high turnover with drivers, they need to work on getting new talent, even if they have a driver training program. Most of the time I managed my locations I was always short drivers.

Ability to structure day to day activities based on customer needs.

    Cons

Lack of vacation time, half decent benefits (medical, dental, vision).

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Upward opportunities. Company does a good job of promoting from within. Leadership want to strive to be innovative in the industry.

    Cons

Middle management positions are shrinking for budget purposes. Salaries are slightly below market. Benefits are minimally acceptable for a large company.

    Pros

    Great family atmosphere, friendly people

    Cons

Questionable decisions from Management in general; continuous improvement does seem to be a priority
    Old computer systems

    Advice to Management

Focus on what's important: work on processes and invest more in technology

I worked at Ryder System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good job, good pay, good benefits. I mean it’s easy to score a job driving a forklift but ryder does take categories of their employees and pays the decent as well.

    Cons

Every job has the same cons, feeling as though management doesn’t understand even though they do. It’s just they are doing their job based on the rules they have to follow

    Advice to Management

    Be more understanding

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hiring process is comprehensive deal and usually involves multiple interviews. The experience you bring to the table is important; your expectations and plans not so much. Remember you will be in a learning situation if you are sucessful, so make that clear in the interview.

    Cons

You may find starting salary offers and positions tend to be somewhat under expectations /other logistics companies, but Ryder is an incredible learning environment (internal training as well as their willingness to pay for post grad courses taken and passed)

    Advice to Management

    Hire diversity.

I worked at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people
    Decent Health/retirement benefits
    Flexible work schedule

    Cons

    Zero based budget.
new contracts with little no maintenance.

    Advice to Management

Do not just our right cut your employees especially those who have shown themselves to work above and beyond.

When you grow your business, have everything written down and be upfront with your employees.

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have been with Ryder System for a little over a year. I am proud to work here for a number of reasons. We work as a team and we succeed as a team. The employees I work with on a daily basis couldn't be more of a positive group of individuals. There are recruiters all over the country that you work with that you may not have met face to face, but you know anyone is willing to lend a hand. Ryder is a company that provides outstanding benefits, growth, training and an incredible work/life balance.

    Cons

The only cons I have experienced is hard to fill markets for recruiting. Once you have the right tools and know how to source with boolean strings these hard to fill markets become a lot easier to manage.

I have been working at Ryder System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Have been dependable in the past. However, new budget tightening is concerning.

    Cons

    Employees are overworked and underpaid

    Advice to Management

Worry less about stock dividends and more about employee compensation.
