I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pretty good culture, for a bank. Good people. Good systems.

    Cons

Culture started to get eroded, by a lot of the acquisitions and growth in especially Asia. I started to question corporate governance and ethics by the time I left.

    Advice to Management

Great job overall. i think the EM focus is key for your success.

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great exposure to Emerging Markets, mainly Asia, Middle East and Africa. One has a chance to learn in depth about financial markets within these regions. Lateral movement relatively flexible.

    Cons

Old management was not exactly filled with front line senior executives/bankers, especially in the Americas. SCB has always been an SME bank, catering to mid size to small companies; new management has the challenge of expanding to large global companies with limited balance sheet.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Almost none. But benefits are good.

    Cons

Need 400 pages for it. Quality of people is sub par. Bank is staffed with rejects from JPM, Citi, etc. People are simply incompetent from unknown, lousy schools. If you want to numb yourself out please join otherwise stay as far away as possible. Forget to mention that the pay is really bad. and finally culture is similar to Stalinist Soviet Russia where everybody drop a dime on you and report to HR.

    Advice to Management

Fold your operations in the U. S and go away. No one will miss you here.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time

    Pros

It's a very dynamic and diverse team. The company invest a lot to junior staff. Good international mobility

    Cons

Underpay if you stay too long within the same role. Culture could be dramatically different in different offices.

    Advice to Management

Listen more from various stakeholders and understand what's going on at the bottom.
