Pros

There are some incredibly passionate people at Vanguard. The 401K match is the best I've found.

Cons

The few great people that are left are often drowned out by an apathetic mass of people. New hires get paid more than established and successful employees because of poorly thought-out HR policies. Senior leaders constantly parrot that "Vanguard cares about you", that may be true for them but no longer seems true for the average crew member. Layoffs are a thing, but they don't talk about it. It seems that Vanguard wants to transform into a more typical company but is refusing to pay like it.

Pros

Good work life balance, very nice people/good culture, good benefits, job security

Cons

Time-based promotion, bureaucracy (same as most big companies), old technology/some monolith applications, below average pay

Pros

Extremely stable work environment at an extremely stable company. Amazing health/medical benefits. Recent initiatives for "flexible schedules" and "working from home" have been gaining headwind with some teams

Cons

The stability comes at a cost. Sub-par salaries. Also, the technology available to developers is incredibly dated. In some places, the company is ~3 years behind the curve... in others, they're 10+ years behind. They have trouble keeping up with technology. Worse yet, any technology that's implemented is implemented in the clunkiest way possible. Being a developer is a total pain.
