Congratulations to Lorena, a registered nurse from Electrocardiology at PIH Health Whittier Hospital for receiving the DAISY Award! While caring for a patient undergoing multiple surgeries, Lorena paid great attention to the patient’s medical history and alerted the surgeon of possible complications during the procedure. Meanwhile, Lorena also trained a newer nurse on how to set up for the patient’s bedside procedures. Thank you, Lorena, for going above and beyond to put #PatientsFirst!

Yesterday, PIH Health Downey Hospital and PIH Health Whittier Hospital participated in a one-day coalition decontamination (decon) drill hosted by Whitter Medical Center. Additional participants included decon teams from several other local hospitals, including Beverly Hospital, Greater El Monte Community Hospital, Norwalk Community Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Coast Plaza Hospital. The training was an excellent opportunity for decon teams to learn and enhance their emergency response skills—practicing the necessary roles to ensure safe outcomes for both the patients and responding staff, as well as the proper way to don and doff personal protective equipment. PIH Health is proud to be part of Los Angeles County’s Disaster Resource Centers network, and we thank our PIH Health Decon Team members for their commitment to the community through emergency preparedness.
