In honor of #WorldPharmacistsDay, meet Krystal! Krystal is the pharmacy manager of PIH Health’s new pharmacy located in the Downey Medical Office Building. “Since we’re a new pharmacy that started with a completely blank slate,” shares Krystal, “I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with and really getting to know all the patients, doctors, nurses and staff that walk through the pharmacy.” She and her colleagues work together every day to put #PatientsFirst by refilling medications in a timely manner, alleviating concerns about possible drug interactions or side effects, and educating patients on how to take their medication or inject their insulin safely and correctly. “In my experience at PIH Health, patients and their families usually stop by the pharmacy after discharging from a visit or stay in the hospital or emergency room,” says Krystal. “So, it is important to me that my team and I provide a pleasant and positive pharmacy experience for each patient.” When she isn’t serving the PIH Health community, Krystal enjoys doing nails and volunteering at a pug shelter on her days off. PIH Health thanks all our pharmacists and pharmacy staff for continuously putting #PatientsFirst!

Meet Marian Pak DO with PIH Health Physicians. Dr. Pak is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, who received her doctorate at Midwestern University and completed an internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Recognizing that navigating health can sometimes feel daunting and challenging, Dr. Pak says her hope is that “all people, regardless of background, will have access to quality health care.” Dr. Pak chose the OB/Gyn specialty because she wanted to help women feel empowered to make the best-informed decisions for themselves. She explains that OB/Gyn specialty cares for women throughout various stages of their lives, and this is what makes it special.
#EmployeeSpotlight: Meet Jennifer, a residency and administrative coordinator for the Spiritual Care Services Department at PIH Health Whittier Hospital. Jennifer also provides administrative support to PIH Health Downey Hospital and PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital in addition to the chaplain training program that features a staff of over twenty people and numerous volunteers. Jennifer has been with the organization for more than 16 years and works closely with the hospital chaplains and staff. Jennifer’s favorite part about working at PIH Health is the staff around her. “Everyone that I have met cares deeply about the work they do, and it feels like a family,” she says. Jennifer says that her unit contributes to PIH Health’s #PatientsFirst vision by providing emotional support for those in need during times of crisis and recovery. “While I am not a chaplain, I do provide support, encouragement, and a listening ear to our staff.” Says Jennifer. “Even chaplains need someone to be there so they can discuss and debrief for proper self-care.” When she is not caring for PIH Health patients and staff, she loves spending time with her husband and two daughters cooking, reading, exploring nature, and going to concerts. Jennifer shared that she feels blessed to work at PIH Health and PIH Health is lucky to have her as a part of our community!
