Every June we celebrate Pride Month. It serves as a time for awareness, advocacy, and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to large-scale, civic actions, there are ways organizations and individuals can support their LGBTQ+ employees and colleagues. In our latest blog, in partnership with Propeller DEI Program Manager, Julia Rine, we asked the Propeller LGBTQ+ community to share what they need from their workplace or colleagues to feel supported, in hopes of inspiring you to incorporate inclusion into your everyday actions.
Ten years ago, the world was introduced to Gangnam Style, Facebook held its IPO, and Propeller was founded. Meet Rob Roy, a data & analytics consultant in our Denver office. We sat down and chatted about the power of trust and transparency, the importance of diverse backgrounds in consulting, and the challenges he is conquering. “Not every consultant at Propeller comes from a business background—Propeller seeks out thought leaders first. That is what makes us more than great consultants. Propeller recognizes and embraces our differences.”
Is your company culture as inclusive as you think? Data shows that LGBTQ+ employees' experiences at work are not the same. They experience higher rates of discrimination and unfair treatment and feel less emotionally and psychologically safe than their straight coworkers. Propeller HR Operations Associate Stefanie Loebach shares six ways you can support LGBTQ +employees and create an environment that welcomes everyone to show up authentically. "With a thoughtful strategy and measurement in place, you can make LGBTQ+ employees feel like more than a number—but rather a celebrated, included, and valued part of the organization."
Meet Lena Chhay, a Technical Program Manager in our Denver office. We sat down with Lena to chat about solving unexpected problems, creating #authenticity and belonging in the workplace, and setting work-life boundaries. "When one person shows up authentically it inspires other people to do the same and creates an environment where they feel safe to do so.”
