I applied online. I interviewed at AMD (Fort Collins, CO) in August 2017.

Interview

Interviewer emailed me after one week. Total 3 rounds, first one with the manager and rest with team members. All of them asked various questions on DFT, as this is DFT intern role. Questions were on fundamentals. Interviewers also asked about resume and my projects, which were on DFT.

  • 1) What is the difference between functional testing and structural testing? Which one is
    preferred?
    2) Difference between a normal flop and scan flop?
    3) How is boundary scan done?
    4) Different types of faults in DFT? How to avoid them?   Answer Question
  • 5) How to increase the fault coverage?
    6) How is scan values passed in extest?
    7) Write a script in Perl to change the values in the line.
    8) Is structural scan denser or functional?   Answer Question
  • 9) If we have don’t cares in the output of the scan, what is the problem and how is it solved?
    10) What is scan compression?
    11) Difference between transition delay and path delay?
    12) Define SDD?   Answer Question
  • 13) How do you propagate fault through AND gate?
    14) Define the bridging fault?
    15) How is At speed testing done?
    16) Explain the entire flow of DFT.   Answer Question

    Communication through email was poor as it took weeks to recieve reply. Replys where also lacked needed unfo which resulted in more followup emails (another 2 weeks). Phone interview with serveral hiring reps asking questions. Some questions where related to me, others specifically about AMD, as well as generic logic/thought questions

    • Asked what time it was at my current location (4:43pm). Then asked what the angle would be between the hour and minute hand of 4:43 on an analog clock.   1 Answer

    Multi step process. Did an initial informal one on one with one of their presenters at a meet and greet hosted at my university. Submitted resume via e-mail. Did follow up phone interview with direct manager I would be working under. Then contacted by HR to fill out paper work. Rather smooth and painless process.

    I had just one interview in which the interviewer tried to estimate my academic experience in the fields of physical design and verification. Some other skills like working on Linux and knowledge in scripting are also tested.

    Interview went on smooth but coming to result dont know why they delay. we dont even know whether we are rejected or under consideration for the position. AMD should improve its interaction with the candidates. They donot even respond to emails once the interview is done.
