I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at City Year (Boston, MA) in Mar 2018
Interview
I submitted an online application then was contact for a Skype interview. My interviewer was nice and personable and took time in between my answers to type out my responses. I was asked basic questions about why I wanted to do City Year, about a time I experienced conflict, etc.

Question 1
What is one aspect of your identity that might be challenged by City Year?
Very simple. Quick virtual interview and pretty simple questions. Research their values and what not and you should be good to go. As far as I remember it was a single interview and decision is relatively soon after that.
Really friendly and welcoming. Try to make it as comfortable as possible and share about the work they do. They want to ensure applicants are making the right decisions and that they assess the values.

Done over zoom and not an overly long process interviews are usually conducted by the IM for a school in the city you are applying for but if you have a pulse you should be fine
