I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at City Year (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2011
Interview
There was first an application that I submitted online that had a couple of essay questions. Then there was a phone interview and after that an in-person interview. During the in-person interview, they asked a lot of questions about working with students and programming. They asked about specific situations on how to deal with difficult students and also more programmatic questions about running programs with a lot of kids. They also asked about the community service experience I had and how that has influenced me
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe a time that you worked with kids and the type of program you led
Very simple. Quick virtual interview and pretty simple questions. Research their values and what not and you should be good to go. As far as I remember it was a single interview and decision is relatively soon after that.
Really friendly and welcoming. Try to make it as comfortable as possible and share about the work they do. They want to ensure applicants are making the right decisions and that they assess the values.

Interview
Done over zoom and not an overly long process interviews are usually conducted by the IM for a school in the city you are applying for but if you have a pulse you should be fine
