      Technical Editor Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Fast Enterprises (Denver, CO) in Feb 2017

      Interview

Six days after I applied on Linkedin, I was emailed by a recruiter to apply through the website and to send my unofficial (or official) academic transcript, a cover letter, and resume. Note: They are looking for smart people, which I am, so if your transcript is below the 3.0 margin, you may not want to waste your time. Then came the phone interview a couple days later. I was asked the standard, typical interview questions. She sent me a test to take. Note: This is a NEW position. The recruiter told me that right now the Technical Writers are doing the work of editing as well. You would be taking the editing portion from them. It'll be your responsibility to make this role your own. It also seems like they've been interviewing for this job since at least the middle of last year, so they're being very picky. What bothered me is that during the time period I had to take the test (about 4 days), I noticed the job had been put back on Linkedin. I felt like I was wasting my time finishing this test (it isn't that difficult, but I feel like perhaps I didn't explain my reasoning and thinking as much as they would've liked. It was basically copy editing a technical document. All of the usual copy editing rules would reply here but with a more technical document). I finished the test a day earlier than the deadline. A few days later (after the weekend) I get a form email telling me that they've rejected me. I would recommend asking a lot of questions during your interview and trying to get a feel for what they want. You'll have the option of Microsoft Word or Google docs to edit your test document if you get to this stage. They don't seem to know what they want in this role themselves.
