I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tesco (King's Lynn, England) in Sep 2016
Interview
You have to do an online questionnare, if you pass that stage you'll be asked to submit documents proving you can legally work in the UK.
2 Working days after applying I recieved a phone call on the Wednesday asking to come in for an interview on the Friday.
I was applying for a position in one of the Express stores, so it wasn't as overwhelming. I filled in another questionnare about my health on arrival of the interview and then was taken to their staff office where I was asked 5 simple questions.
I don't remember the questions specifically, but they were just about giving examples of a certain situation you've been in that they describe to get a feel for how you already are around other people etc. The rest of the interview was pretty informal and was just conversation. I was asked to shadow one of the members of staff to get a feel of what it's like, I was pretty comfortable since I was actually applying for a store nearby my house so I knew everyone pretty well.
The manager seemed really impressed by my enthusiasm and how energetic I was considering my real ambition is to be an illustrator, I was pretty upfront about my aspirations but explained that I wanted a job the involved a lot of communicating to help me gain my confidence when I'm doing paid art work etc.
I was told I'd hear back later the following week but recieved a phone call on Tuesday in the evening saying I'd got the job. I now have to do an induction day on Saturday before I start.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Can you tell me about a time where you've had to do a task that you were not comfortable doing? What did you and what was the outcome?
Interview was around 2.5 hours in total. Started with a group interview then 20 minutes on the shop floor shadowing a checkout colleague then finally a 1 to 1 interview with a manager.
Nice environment. Kind people. Asked the right questions and I felt I could ask any questions i had. Overall I enjoyed the experience and would recommend to other people to do an interview with them.
Very easy, just asked a few questions about my experience and my availability on time etc. what days i can work and my flexability on the dates i can do
