Anonymous Interview Candidate in Brooklyn, NY
I interviewed at West Elm (Brooklyn, NY)
After a few rounds of conversations, a design assignment done pro bono, and an initial offer, they ghosted me. I didn't have a positive experience, though I expected that I might have an experience like this from such a large company.

I applied through other source. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at West Elm (Oak Brook, IL) in Aug 2023
Long interview process, surprised after 3 interviews with upper management to only be told during the 4th interview I wasn't qualified for the role. Very mind-boggling and disappointing! After all the time spent interviewing, I was ghosted by them, which was highly unprofessional!

The team was joking around when I came in. They were okay. The lady that wasn't supposed to interview me came over and started asking me questions. I think she was the man's boss who was supposed to interview me. She didn't really explain. She seemed more judgmental and it got the feeling that she didn't want to give me the job. No matter what. They said they actually we're not looking for part-time even though they posted they were looking for part-time which was frustrating and waste of my time.

Applied to an online application and was then contacted by an internal recruiter to set up a 30 minute phone interview. During that interview was asked standard questions, why do you want this position, tell me about yourself, etc... Later set up an interview with the person who would oversee me for this position. Again went over the position and asked more standard questions. Then was assigned a design project to complete within two weeks. Did the project for them and had another follow up interview to go over the project.

I applied online and HR reached out to me within 3 days. After 3 rounds of phone/video interviews I was finally invited for an in person interview. I will admit that I wasn’t as prepared as I should’ve been but you work with what you got. After wasting someone’s time for 3+ weeks have the respect to send them a rejection letter.

Had a phone interview with HR and then another one with the VP and Design Director. I was also assigned a design project without pay in a span of a week.
- Could you tell me about your previous role and the cross functional team you worked with?

5 Interviews that consisted of the same questions each time within 2 weeks that they rushed to schedule with me; only for them to tell me, after 3 weeks of no contact that they were cancelling the role I interviewed for.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at West Elm in Nov 2022
I would describe how the interview went but I was never able to have one. A West Elm recruiter reached out to me over 3 weeks ago requesting an interview and sent an automated calendar to schedule an interview. I scheduled time, took time out of my work day for the interview, and never received a call during our scheduled interview time. I reached out to the recruiter to see if they had trouble reaching me and never received a response back. At that point I was a bit lost on what to do, but the calendar was still open with future invites so I went ahead and scheduled another time for a few days later. That day came and went and again I never received a call. The next week the recruiter finally replied that she had been out sick. I would have appreciated someone reaching to me before the interview to cancel, an out of office email, or even the available times on the days they were out to be removed, but things happen and I understand that. So I scheduled for a 3rd time, which was another week and a half out based on their availability. I took time away from my work schedule for a 3rd time, waited for a call and once again never received one. I finally received an email 5 minutes into the scheduled interview that said the position had been filled with another candidate and they would not be moving forward with my application. I have never had a worse, disrespectful experience than trying to schedule an intro call with this company. I spent time researching the company and preparing only to be dragged along for 3.5 weeks only to never even speak to anyone. At this point, I wouldn't work for this company even if I was able to interview. I hope no one else has to deal with this awful recruiting process.
