I have been working at Codero full-time

    Pros

Codero is a special place. Especially if you want to have a career in tech, this is a good place. It feels like family. Everyone is helpful. You will also enjoy work with smart people in the company and learn. The important thing for me is that the office is laid back. You will instantly get the feel that you are part of a team and a family. I found that people are always ready to help. Customers are generally happy …

    Cons

Some inconsistencies. Some departments are really good-- others are not. The work is intense at times and your expected to hit the ground running. New employee on-boarding is not well done. Understaffed in some areas, and slow to hire.

    Advice to Management

Accept Change - As the company grows, encourage the evolution of the workplace with things like work from home. Look at the groups in the company with high morale, and learn from them. There is a lot of talent, and lots of good ideas here. Don’t overlook. More joint activities between groups and locations.

    Pros

Great learning opportunities from some very knowledgeable people

Decent place to get your foot in the door

Pretty friendly and casual environment, that is until you start asking questions or the ceo has one of his "meetings"

    Cons

There was literally no onboarding of new employees.

    Environment is very volatile.

    Often times it's very stressful

    Very high turnover (unnecessarily)

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a training program. All companies train new employees the way they like things to be done. Some sort of onboarding is definitely needed. My first day was to shadow another employee on incoming phone calls and chat support. That was until the very first call was a very angry customer. My training stopped there and never resumed.
Adopt better businesses practices. Breaking your own policies because an upset customer posted a negative review on a forum only leads to more customers abusing the company.
Hire more people for overnight shift. When you only have ONE or even only TWO overnight people, and you tell them they are theoretically the "CEO" of the company during this time and that they have to carry out the rest of the company's functions (networking, billing, sales), all the while taking in 5 or more chat support sessions as well as taking phone calls, there is no possibility for said employees to take a bathroom break let alone take a lunch. Even working from home was stressful. You would pray to the gods for a slow night so you can ask someone at the datacenter to watch phones and chats so you can grab something to eat.
If you don't have a training program and tell new employees they should ask a lot of questions if they come across something they don't know, you can no longer get mad or snap on said employee for asking anything...ever...
CEO should let his managers do their jobs and not micro manage. Everyone knows a happy worker is a productive one. Shouting and berating management will only lead to resentment.
Don't make support team sell products; they are support.
Let networking team do networking jobs. Level 1 support shouldn't be doing the jobs of other departments.

Regardless if this review is personal or not, your work life IS a personal thing especially they refer to themselves as family.
Do your research on this company. The positive reviews could very well be fake.

I have been working at Codero (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to get your foot in the door in a growing industry. Benefits start immediately.

Austin office is very laid back, and very open feel. Love the location off 360.

In Marketing, good budget producing a good number of leads to a talented sales team. Support team seems to try hard, but lacks stable management and adequate training to avoid daily fires leading to an "everyone pile on to fix" mentality. Guess the high customer NPS ratings mean that most customers are happy enough.

    Cons

CEO micro-manages every department, but offers no real value based on what I've seen. Seems to consume management teams' time with endless meetings to berate them for the company's failures. (Thankfully I'm not in those meetings, but does the CEO not realize how thin the walls are or how ridiculous his temper tantrums and fist-banging sound to anyone within earshot?).

In all my previous jobs, CEOs were too busy developing business plans and making executive level decisions to be immersed in the day-to-day operational minutiae. In other words, this CEO has no actual job, but won't let anyone else do theirs.

    Advice to Management

Find a real CEO with business savvy who's capable of empowering his managers to do their jobs before another talented employee leaves. Sales director is without question the best I've seen and the VP of marketing is excellent as well, however sales and marketing seem to get the brunt of the CEO's abuse.

I worked at Codero full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There may be a good product opportunity around hybrid performance hosting, but a lot of work will need to be done to counter Amazon and other bigger hosting companies

    Cons

The CEO is one of the most abusive and unprofessional individuals I've experienced in years. He demands 100% control of everything. Any differing opinions are met with face to face screaming and insults in front of a room of individuals or even on a company-wide video conference. He has no shame or self-control. If you are actually able to succeed you will not get credit and if something goes differently than the CEO unreasonably expects, you should expect all the blame and with extreme prejudice. There is no place for this kind of behavior in any work environment. Despite the planted reviews by management, there is no upside to counteract this kind of poisonous culture.

    Advice to Management

Stop the deals of the month which simply restart every month. This is 100% opposite of a good sales plan designed to increase ASP and profit margin.

    Pros

Great coworkers and solid managers neither of which last very long unfortunately

    Cons

Very high turnover with marketing and sales reps. Most employees in the marketing and sales departments do not last more than a year. CEO is not all there and is very controlling over every aspect of the business. Not a good culture or work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Let your managers lead their own teams

    Pros

If you want to work in the hosting industry, Codero can be your foot in the door. You will meet some very smart and nice people. Work can be interesting.

    Cons

This is a very difficult place to work because of the explosive, emotional management and the company's position in an industry that is dominated by giants. The negative reviews on this page have covered the majority of what makes this company so difficult to be successful at. You have probably seen the all the 5-star glassdoor reviews too. I recommend you either [1] reach out to someone in your network who is connected to someone who has left Codero & get their perspective or [2] do a search on LinkedIn and compare the number of current Codero employees with the number of former Codero employees & see if that number sits well with you. Last time I looked there were roughly twice as many former employees as current. That is not a mistake. Company has been around for roughly 5 years. Glassdoor is a great resource but sometimes it can be manipulated by companies & the Codero page is an example of that happening. Protect yourself by educating yourself & keep your career options open.

    Advice to Management

Company is still slowly growing but it comes at the cost of employees leaving in droves because of how you treat them. This is not sustainable. Rethink how you approach your employees.
