Today, we are strong in two business areas: networks, where our four business units are enabling new kinds of global connectivity, and Nokia Technologies, which is focused on technology development and intellectual property rights activities.

Our thinking is ahead of the game and yours will be too.

Nokia’s network businesses are leading a new revolution in global connectivity. We are helping operators, enterprises and governments meet the increasing demand of the connected world, as well as capture its opportunities.

We are seamlessly weaving together an increasingly diverse mix of network technologies. We do this in order to create efficient, smart, and agile networks that are automated and managed through the Cloud.

We do this through our four networks businesses:

- Mobile Networks deliver end-to-end mobile broadband products and services

- Fixed Networks provide an end-to-end ultra broadband solution that combines copper and fiber access products

- IP/Optical Networks drive technology leadership by building dependable, flexible and large-scale network infrastructure for service providers and web-scale enterprises

- Applications & Analytics deploy sophisticated yet intuitive software platforms that help optimize, secure and control the quality of network performance.

Nokia Technologies (TECH)

Is our advanced technology and licensing business. Formed in 2014, Nokia Technologies builds upon our solid foundation of industry-leading licensing and technology R&D capabilities.

By focusing on Digital Media, Brand Licensing, and Patent Licensing, we are expanding the human possibilities of the ever-evolving world of technology.

Digital Media

Our newest practice will introduce groundbreaking new products like OZO, the extraordinary VR camera designed and built for professional creators

Brand Licensing

We collaborate with strategic partners to create great products that deliver our brand promise to consumers. Starting with the Nokia N1 Android tablet.

Patent Licensing

Our patents business manages one of the broadest and strongest IP portfolios in the industry.

We act with an entrepreneurial mindset and operate in a non-hierarchical way. We’re small enough to know everyone by their first name, whilst big enough to imagine the connected world and the future of the technology within it.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

Nokia is very employee-focused. Excellent benefits such as a strong employee training program that is continuously adding the newest resources have made it a good place to invest my career capital. The company takes diversity and ethics seriously in my experience. Work-life balance is good - when you're at work, you work hard, but you get to use your ample vacation benefits. Some companies talk about work-life balance but create a judgmental atmosphere around using vacation. Nokia isn't like that. It recognizes that you drive yourself hard when you're at work and that kind of effort requires some down-time in the form of paid time off. Senior leadership has high expectations, as it should, but it also seems sympathetic to employees and wants to see us develop and be successful.

The telecom industry is undergoing challenging times, and this has impacted Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, Huawei and many other companies. Staffing can be tight on some projects. But in my experience, managers try to prioritize rather than engage in death marches. In my area, it's common for some overtime to be required, but that's true in the industry as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on employee career capital as a way to attract and retain the best and brightest

Continue to increase investment in diversity programs

Be stricter about divesting from products that aren't profitable or don't have major emerging potential - these siphon resources that are needed on other projects, for innovation, etc.
