Fairly easy process once you get an interview. It’s best if you get a referral from current staff. The interview process starts with HR call then meet with hiring manager.
- Tell me a little about yourself.
I work in a Rep Services Call Center for an Insurance/ Investment Company. Currently I'm pursuing my MBA at Western Governors University and I plan to get my Series 7 after my MBA so I can get out of the Call Center and advance my career. I'm looking for some advice / guidance/ideas for growth opportunities from here. I'd like to hear about good experiences and bad experiences people have had in this industry, where did you start, how did you grow from there, what licenses do you have, ect.

Interview with recruiter. Very disorganized. Was not clear about the role and reporting structure. Recruiter never followed up on questions as they indicated they would. The individual was personable, but at times I got the impression that they thought they were talking to someone else and then regrouped. Sounded overwhelmed.
- What types of projects have you worked on in the past?

The interview process involves an initial video interview with a member of the hiring team (about 45 minutes) and then a second video interview with the hiring manager about a week later. The initial interview asks you about how you found out about the school, how you feel about DEI, etc. The school is very focused on diversity - but only certain kinds of diversity, so don't bother applying if you have a disability of any kind or are over about 25 or have pale skin.
- How do you feel about DEI?

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Western Governors University in Jul 2023
First was a candidate phone interview to talk about my skills and experience and also learn about the position, salary, benefits, etc. Before my phone call I was sent a success kit with all of the information- very up front (hours, salary, interview process, a video about the company, etc). I was then scheduled for a virtual interview which was great! Very easy-going, open conversation. Typical interview questions but more of a conversation back and forth. Learned more about the position and company and was offered the job at the end of our conversation.
- She had my resume up and asked me a few things about my experiences and skills. Asked me about times something I planned didn't go as planned and how I dealt with that. Asked me about my skills with technology. Nothing difficult, but easier to answer if you have experience.

Great interview process. The recruiter paid attention to what concerns I had. The process was smooth and realistic. The time frame and communication were exceptional. The hiring process was eye opening.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Western Governors University in Jun 2023
After being referred to for the position, I got an email from someone in HR wanting to conduct a phone screening. It went well! It was just me going over my CV. The following week I was able to speak with the hiring manager for the role. It was a video interview. He was nice and we went over the role and my CV in more detail. They were trying to finalize a decision for that week, and I was told I'd hear back but never did. I had to pester them for an additional week just to hear back that I wasn't selected. Oh well!!

The interview process can be lengthy but thorough. Towards the end, I met with members of a team and conversed about the expectations and my background. I guess to see if I would be a good fit with the team.

A lengthly, but, thorough interview process. The interviews included stakeholders from a number of different cross-functional business units, which made scheduling challenging; improvements can be made in streamlining the order in which candidates receive interviews.
- Q: How do you go about handling stakeholders with challenging requests or feedback?

Remember a Series 7 is simply a license to sell securities. It won’t mean you’re suddenly a brilliant financial analyst…just like having a drivers license doesn’t mean you’re a great driver. Just means you know the legal rules for selling securities (or driving a car).
