I worked at CA Technologies full-time

    Pros

Big deals = big earnings potential. Some of the acquired software solutions are robust and scalable.

    Cons

Most sales resources go to larger accounts, which makes greenfield territory management and hunting new logos more difficult. Potential for tension between renewals team vs. sales team on revenue and who gets credit for what.

    Pros

The people there were great. Competent but also nice to work with.

The people really care about the company. They genuinely want it to succeed.

The work/ life balance was reasonable.

The facilities are really nice -- great gym, decent cafeteria and on-site child care.

    Cons

It was announced in July 2018 that CA is being acquired by Broadcom. I am no longer at CA but I would have questions as to what level the Long Island offices will remain after the acquisition closes. If you are looking to go there, make sure you ask about this.

    Pros

Great workplace flexibility, work-life balance, and the most amazing and talented group of people.

    Cons

The recent acquisition announcement puts all that I love about this place in jeopardy.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance is great. As long as your intentional on how you manage your time, the workload is very doable and fair. No travel is necessary for me in these two roles. Flexibility to work remote and in the office when I want (which i'm learning is a rarity among my peers.) No call metrics, just a quota. Just hit your quota and work. Quotas are attainable, but you do have to work at it. Nothing is going to be handed to you in the software sales industry.

    Cons

Management is hot and cold. You can have a great direct manager and terrible vp leadership or great vp leadership and a terrible manager. I've had 4 managers in my 7 years here and only 1 maybe 2 of the 4 would I work for again. CA just announced the broadcom acquisition of CA and it's quite uncertain here. Management is always changing how things are set up and constantly trying to flip things up. The magic isn't going to be how you re-organize the business, the magic is going to be when you keep and cultivate your great talent. Too many solid folks are leaving due to the uncertainty and poor management.

    Advice to Management

Calm down and stop changing things. Identify who the solid team members are and build your business around them. Get rid or relocate the ones not performing well and back fill with vetted individuals. I'm betting this advice is going to be worth nothing in 1 year because CA will not exist much longer from the divestiture that's going to occur of the business units being sold off from Broadcom trying to make their money back.

    Pros

Good benefits, my team is amazing, management in my group is great.

    Cons

Our company is in the process of being acquired by Broadcom, so unsure of company direction at this time.

I have been working at CA Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing benefits that truly support people and families in a holistic and well-balanced way.
Culture is very people-friendly and there's a genuine focus on aiming to be a truly great place to work.
Work is challenging and rewarding and there are plenty of opportunities for those who are willing to push themselves.
CHRO who is the most genuine and capable executive leader in the game - if not for his influence on the rest of the C-suite CA would not be as great a company as it is today for its people.

    Cons

The company has been acquired by Broadcom so the future for CA as it currently exists is unclear :-(

    Advice to Management

It would have been good to see the CEO practising what he preaches and not living by a different set of rules to what he expected of the rest of the workforce.

    Pros

Superior skilled and helpful team members

    Cons

CA could stand for "Change Always". Sales strategies and org structures change much too often.

    Advice to Management

Sales strategies and org structures change much too often thus not allowing momentum to build; especially when average sales cycle was 6 months to a year.
