    Pros

BCBS is a good employer generally. The retirement plan is good principally for ppl who've been there a long time but they are paring it bavk for new hires. They will hire ppl who may not easily be able to get hired elsewhere. Mgt is good in some parts of the co.

    Cons

Speaking in re the IT dept.: Mismanaged. Also top-heavy. Policy is enforced by VPs on whim. Promotions and pay raises are inconsistent and political, not dtiven by performance. Mgrs consistently underrate ppl to keep requests for raises down. Mgt treats IT like an ordinary market and consistently underpays ppl. Thus they are losing good IT ppl at an increasing rate. The current CIO's strategy appears to be to drive away FT IT ppl and replace them with Cognizant contractors. Not wise either long or short term. Mgrs are turning into administrators as VPs increasingly make personnel-level decisions themselves. Some mgrs need removal due to bad interpersonal skills or at least need training, or due to incompetence, though mine wasn't bad. The whole co. is top-heavy and they are bleeding the co. Bus. process reengineering is badly needed, a lot of sr. execs. need to be eliminated as redundant/unnecessary.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. And get aware that you can't underpay un-demand ppl and expect them to stay. But that is prob the plan anyway.

I have been working at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very devoted to the whole "best place to work" thing. As long as what you want is something that will be considered in the survey, you are very likely to get it! The culture is very nice and the atmosphere is pleasant.

    Cons

Depending on your supervisor, things vary widely. People with the same job title, at the same level have vastly different amounts of PTO, WFH and Sick Time, depending on their manager's whims. There is no oversight from senior management to create any consistency, or mediate any disputes.

    Advice to Management

You are probably doing fine. Its a buyer's market, you don't have to keep the workforce happy.

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Decent pay
    Some nice coworkers
    Lots of openings always arising
    Annual bonus potential
Multiple intranet sites to maneuver for info

    Cons

Absolutely poor training for advocacy members
Hidden sexist behavior toward men who challenge matriarchies
The trainer deliberately uses stern, abusive treatment toward new hires and the management support her.
Poor parking availability for workers at the corporate office
Felt forced to accept the bad trainer's retaliatory reviews or face being terminated
The HR staff did nothing effective to prevent the unprofessional behavior
The OL department was completely unutilized to resolve training issues
    Toxic learning environment
Felt forced to quit in order to apply for other internal positions due to 6-month policy

    Advice to Management

Change your 6-month policy so that new hires can experience flexibility if their new position is not a good fit.

    Pros

Benefits, Longevity, Professionalism, Expansion, Job Security, Schooling support

    Cons

Less pay than competitors, Difficult to "climb the work ladder" or get promotions without a degree but can do the same as those with a degree.

Look and listen to all of your employees who assist within your company to male it better, not just the "bigwigs" or "suits". Not all great ideas came from those with a degree.
