    Pros

Benefits are great but their attendance policy is very strict and hard to comply with if you have children or anything that would cause more than 3 "occurrences" in one year. This includes illness, 3 minutes tardy from the snow or you are at work and have to leave because your kid fell off the playground at school and broke his arm. Those were my 3 occurances that resulted in a write up!

    Cons

Attendance policy, job never feels secure and in fact is not. If they want you gone they will find a way to performance you out

    Pros

Great benefits, good people. Lots of people are willing to help you out and go above and beyond to help.

    Cons

No real cons, standard higher up uncoordinated/politics. Communication and coordination is tricky. You will have to gather all requirements on your own. Just make sure you have a good relationship with manager and team and you will be ok.

    Advice to Management

Take time to properly shape employees. Don't rush things into prod. Please have more realistic dead lines.

I have been working at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is flexibility in my hours. I am able to work from home a couple time a week. People are usually nice and friendly. Work-life balance.

    Cons

I don't know that I've worked here long enough to provide cons. It can be stressful at times, but most jobs can be like that.

I have been working at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Laid back, fun, good mission helping others get quality healthcare, not a pressure cooker (most of the time), bosses usually aren't evil

    Cons

Low pay, not open to working remote, managers don't promote career development, requires you to get a doctor's note stating you have a disability if you want a standing desk

    Pros

BCBS is a good employer generally. The retirement plan is good principally for ppl who've been there a long time but they are paring it bavk for new hires. They will hire ppl who may not easily be able to get hired elsewhere. Mgt is good in some parts of the co.

    Cons

Speaking in re the IT dept.: Mismanaged. Also top-heavy. Policy is enforced by VPs on whim. Promotions and pay raises are inconsistent and political, not dtiven by performance. Mgrs consistently underrate ppl to keep requests for raises down. Mgt treats IT like an ordinary market and consistently underpays ppl. Thus they are losing good IT ppl at an increasing rate. The current CIO's strategy appears to be to drive away FT IT ppl and replace them with Cognizant contractors. Not wise either long or short term. Mgrs are turning into administrators as VPs increasingly make personnel-level decisions themselves. Some mgrs need removal due to bad interpersonal skills or at least need training, or due to incompetence, though mine wasn't bad. The whole co. is top-heavy and they are bleeding the co. Bus. process reengineering is badly needed, a lot of sr. execs. need to be eliminated as redundant/unnecessary.

    Advice to Management

Clean house. And get aware that you can't underpay un-demand ppl and expect them to stay. But that is prob the plan anyway.
