      The Michgan Recovery Center (IBM) is a good place to learn.

      Pros

      While I can't recommend IBM as a place to end a career, it is a good place to be able to make enough to pay the bills while learning Java and all of its associated technologies. One thing about IBM is that they won't fire you on your first, or even second outings working with their clients, as long as you are trying.

      Cons

      The old adage about IBM's "culture" is true, and is a hard thing to put up with, but I tolerate it well enough by telling myself that I am traveling in disguise. Other than that, and the ~standard corporate tricks they attempt to pull on us, it is an ok place to work. And East Lansing, if you like Michigan at all, is very nice.
