I worked at ICR full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

There are so many I don't even know where to start. The culture that the CEO and President have built here is ridiculously awesome. I have multiple co-workers who have become life-long friends. I got to experience all aspects of the financial communications industry. You should consider ICR more of a family than a place of employment because once you get here, you likely will be here for the rest of your career. It is...

    Cons

Some people on the IR team (far from everyone) need to do a better job of treating PR better than a red-headed stepchild. It has improved over time, but still has room to grow.

    Advice to Management

You guys have built something that I thought only existed in fairy tales. You treat your employees so well. You guys are people who I'd gladly go into battle with any day and take a bullet for.

    I worked at ICR

    Pros

Good benefits. Decent pay. Decent people.

    Cons

They will overwork you. Common for people to take work home and while on vacation. Antiquated model where they internally communicate to each other via email (you will drown in emails). IT team is fairly anti-Mac, so God help you if that’s your comp of choice and something breaks. No real capacity checks or understanding how long something takes, so if you don’t meet your deadlines, that’s on you for not working on it...

    Advice to Management

Rather than overpay people to take home more work, hire more people. Start using better tools to facilitate communication across all teams (Slack!). A company that is anti-new tech can’t entice new talent.

    I worked at ICR full-time

    Pros

The client roster is impressive and you will see how the work you are doing is directly impacting your clients.

    Cons

Little-to-no communication, direction, engagement with/from management. Insanely top-heavy with a strong focus on having senior-level titles to impress clients and managers absolutely play favorites, going to the same team members for key assignments over and over. They also recycle everything they do - from going to the same media, to find/replace swapping out clients in projects. There is zero work-life balance -...

I worked at ICR full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Where is Most IR firms work with small cap companies they work with larger firms. Very title conscious workers.

    Cons

The organization is too top-heavy with close to 100 partners, VPs and managing directors. To use a now un-PC phrase “too many chiefs not enough Indians.”

    Advice to Management

Give more responsibility to people with less fancy titles

I have been working at ICR full-time

    Pros

There is a huge learning curve and you're thrown right into demanding, high-level work, but it pays off in the end because you're learning great skills that will help grow your career

    Cons

There is no company culture. It is a quiet work space were people get in, grind and go home. If you're looking to have a lively, fun office life, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Investor more time and money in building culture! Especially with new hires. There is no mentor program and it can be hard for new hires to meet people and have coworkers they feel comfortable asking for help from.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at ICR full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

You will be overworked and burned out, and management will do nothing to help you. It's not even their fault... there is literally nothing they can do. The ICR model is flawed at it's core. The obsession with "growth" and profit means that the firm runs lean and is constantly and purposefully understaffed. High margins are of utmost importance. Junior staff suffers the most. Pay is not competitive for you have to do....

    Cons

-Consumer is an unevolved practice with old guard clients, therefore aren’t winning business with emerging consumer companies - For positioning themselves as an integrated communications firm, ICR tends to operate in very siloed practices that make it impossible to get anything done in a timely manner. - The review process is horrific; would advise that new employees schedule weekly or bi- weekly one-on-ones with managers....

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate the way you utilize your staff, respect work-life balance and don’t treat people like they’re another cog in the wheel.
