I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very cool company to be apart of. Always fun events to go to and great people to work with. NBC products are always topnotch and maintain high viewership in a competitive market

    Cons

Management could do a better job engaging lower level employees just starting their careers out who are eager to move up within the company. More access to training or opportunities to advance.

I have been working at NBCUniversal part-time

    Pros

You work for NBC Universal which is a great company

    Cons

NBC Universal does not know how to run a restaurant

    Advice to Management

Let the restaurant managers have more power instead of having to consult upper Universal management that’s never in the restaurant. Show your employees appreciation instead of over working and under paying them!

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Stability of a large, multi-national corporation. Good official communication and organizational infrastructure. You can shoot up like a rocket if you get in young and do their leadership programs.

    Cons

After the Comcast merger, benefits became a little nickel-and-dimey (401K choices became more limited, for example.), and it became a much less creative, more corporate environment. I think as far as mergers go, my experience was probably pretty standard.

    Advice to Management

Before the merger, creativity, collaboration, and generosity were the norm. After the merger, fear and jockeying for favor took over. I watched a lot of women, LGBTQ, and minority employees leave the ranks of upper management.

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Diverse and friendly co-workers. Professional workplace. Good benefits and pay for experienced and skilled employees is commensurate with the industry.

    Cons

Management lacks cohesive vision and direction, particularly in the TV unit. Very corporate environment that is often at odds with the fact that it is a creative business.

    Advice to Management

Managers and supervisors should sit for a day with one employee from each role in their department. Management is often very hands off / high level and getting closer to the ground would reveal many areas where employees struggle due to lack of resources or support.

Your employees are some of the most creative people in the industry,. You should support and encourage them to develop and bring show and content ideas to the company, but not in the way that is currently done.

Currently small cash prizes and trinkets are offered. Instead you should look at employees as a potential goldmine of creative partners in creating original content, and offer them a stake in any creative projects you develop that come from them.
