I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company is very large so there are a lot of opportunities in many facets of media. However these will not just fall into your lap. You can't just want it. You have to go earn it (network, collaborate, show your work, talk things up, be good). You still have to get yourself in the door (even if you already work for the company)

    Cons

Keeping your head down and working hard is just the foundation, it by itself is not enough. Depending on management structures, you might not have good leadership. Might have to find mentors and collaborators in different parts of the org

    Advice to Management

Create more opportunities to information sharing and network between the businesses. It seems like everyone knows what they do well but holistically they don't look up and share often enough. Some upper management are still more political figureheads rather than adopting leadership principals of openness/collaboration/agility/iterative. They are well intention'ed but they don't have anyone holding them accountible because their bosses are just focused on even bigger things. Focus more on the how at the VP/SVP levels.

But from the C-Level the concepts on culture are great, but then fall off quickly and aren't as practiced. Most great culture building happens from the bottom up (grassroots) at NBCUniversal but then tapers off in that same middle tier management who no longer understand the plight of the worker.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good opportunities for advancement, steady budget and good people combine to make NBC Universal a good company to work for.

    Cons

Change is hard in business units that have been around for a long time. But that can be said for any company.

    Advice to Management

Talent lab programs are top notch. Develop locally based versions to encourage collaboration and cross-training.
