I have been working at Shutterfly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As someone who has been in print for many years, I was excited to join Shutterfly as I viewed them as a forward-thinking techno savy company. I have been blown away at the culture, as I have never felt so appreciated for my knowledge and experience. The Kumbaya Culture and benefits are amazing: DTO (discretionary time off), ability to work from home, stock options (invest in what you believe in), etc. My team is amazing, my direct supervisor is helpful, responsive and keeps pushing me to increase my life/work balance. After working for companies who see their employees as liabilities instead of assets, this is a breath of fresh air!

    Cons

Headquarters is in California and sometimes is not as responsive or thoughtful on unilateral decisions affecting all divisions.

    Advice to Management

Reward success - don't make me fill out Goals if I'm not going to be rewarded in the end because another division didn't perform.

I worked at Shutterfly full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free stuff, food and beverages.

    Cons

    Unfair. Favoritism. Unappreciative. Attendance points.

    Advice to Management

It's not a Shutterfly family when you favor certain people then make jokes about people you don't favor. You don't retain people that way. Treat everyone the same. It's work, not friendships.

Social committee events. Free food. Free soda machine. Free sample giveaways. $1,500+ worth of free products when hired on. Free shipping to work. Free test trials. Health benefits offered. 80 hours of unpaid vacation annually.

Lack of appreciation and acknowledgements. Percentage raises based on performance. Attendance points system (15 is termination, increments of 3's.) Attendance points falls off every 6 months from date of. Bad PTO offerings. No 401k match. Even if you're in the top of the team doing well, they'll still find ways to critic you. Selective to who gets project time, always the same people. You don't get pay raise when offered to train new hires. Food is not form of payment. They offer "new roles" with no pay raise. The more you know does not get you more pay. Better to know less with same pay.

I have been working at Shutterfly (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with kids. Different environments regularly. Work independently.

    Cons

LOW Pay! Most jobs seasonal and part time. No employee appreciation. Can’t make a living here, supplemental income at best. Early mornings. No guaranteed hours or set schedules. Pretty thankless job.

    Advice to Management

I was really excited when Shutterfly acquired Lifetouch. I really thought internal processes and equipment would be upgraded and improved, I thought the bottom-of-the-barrel pay would improve, I really hoped the seasonal and part-time approach to valuable employees would improve. When will Lifetouch territories get the resources they need to improve the situation for employees? Are we going see an improvement or should we just expect the same slide downhill?
