I have been working at VCE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Constant opportunity to learn.
Great product portfolio. Industry recognition. Great benefits. Not stuck in an office cubicle. Good compensation.

    Cons

Like many pre-sales tecnical positions, you're paired with an Account Manager. You'd better like working with them.
Very broad portfolio to try and get 201-301 level deep on, requires personal commitment to constantly read/train. Dell merger is pulling VCE into EMC, and then into Dell. #Future Culture?

I have been working at VCE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

VCE had a good idea at one time.

The technology is OK if you like hardware.

    That really is about it.

    Cons

Management ranges from clownish to profoundly incompetent.

The product line is a now confused mishmash of stuff.

VCE’s culture encourages positioning over accomplishment. People spent great effort saying “Hey look at me!” rather than doing quality work. Toxic.

Needless to say, politics reigns supreme. As VCE became EMC and EMC becomes Dell, the gamesmanship is fierce as people do whatever it takes to defend their fiefdoms or jobs.

Original thinking and vision are absent but if you like wasting time on trivialities and process this may be the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Since management IS the problem offering advice is counterproductive.

I worked at VCE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, vacation and compensation - may not stay the same with Dell

    Cons

Stay away from VCE software team - there is no investment in this area any more and the company is turning into a solutions integrator and not interested in software development. Lots of turnover lately and team at the brink of extinction - stay away

    Advice to Management

Use the awesome talents of those you employ instead of having a "we know better" attitude

I have been working at VCE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Technology, Vision, Original VCE Individual contributors, Past passion to deliver the VCE experience for customers.

    Cons

Since EMC took over nothing but bad Leadership, Nepotism, Arrogant sales mgmt, departure from the core values in the VCE experience for a EMC focus on typical product pimping. EMC Leadership uses the VCE experience as a marketing campaign only.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee culture and retention more than your personal compensation

I worked at VCE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

VCE has some incredible talent at the individual contributor level, the skill level of colleagues my colleagues never ceased to amaze me.

    Cons

Consistent 'Pretend their isn't a problem approach to problems
Inconsistent messaging from management--what's said one day was often contradicted the next
Unethical business practices--shady on-paper sales the parent company were arranged to inflate sales numbers
Clear favoritism shown to those located at HQ in terms of opportunities, information sharing, etc
    Overworked and understaffed
    Employee morale dismal
Managers no-showed for scheduled meetings more often than not
Senior management more interested in politics and power grabs than doing their job
Little to no attempt made to fill open positions; team size shrunk while workloads doubled, year over year
    Culture obliterated by EMC merger
Astonishingly poor business-to-business relationships among 'federated' companies
Benefit reductions were spun to give the impression that they were benefit expansions

    Advice to Management

    Don't be evil.

    I worked at VCE full-time

    Pros

    Was exciting in the beginning.

    Cons

Since the Dell merger has been announced, EMC alumnai have been using newbies as cannon fodder. I looked at some photos from 3 years ago and of the 50 people in the photos, only 2 are still at the company. Everyone else was forced out. Core EMC people discriminate against all people who join from outside. They have a secret society and protect each other at the expense of new comers.

    Advice to Management

Management was a lot better under Praveen and Tim Page. All Chad does is talk. My advice to management is start working on your resumes. Michael Dell is going to lay waste to you fools.

I have been working at VCE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation, people, new technologies to work with.

    Cons

No growth opportunity. Expected you to lead, manage and at the same time take care of tactical items. Much more tactical environment and very little time to work on strategic roadmap.

    Advice to Management

Let mid-level leadership take care of their assigned responsibilities rather than interfering.
