      So much cold calling

      Pros

You can work from home so that is definitely a pro and they have great benefits.

      Cons

You are expected to make so many calls in a day. It's all cold calling. Managers get a lot of pressure from their bosses and you can definitely feel the pressure trickle down.

Thank you for your review. Something we heavily focus on when we talk to folks who want to join the team is making sure we are as transparent and accurate as possible about the challenges that can be expected in sales. Cold-calling is a challenging task not just at Yelp, but in any company. Where we're different is in our training and curriculum, as well as the ongoing coaching and development we provide. Most folks find that when they stick to what they learn during their training, they can successfully connect with business owners to share the value and power of Yelp Advertising. At the end of the day, our hope is that every person feels good about the work they're doing daily, and we understand that sales may not be for everyone. We appreciate your contributions to the team and hope that you've found a role that is better aligned with your career goals.

      Pros

Good benefits and work from home.

      Cons

It’s really important to know- this role is not your typical Account Manager/Customer Success role. This is an elevated customer service role. If you come from a strong AM/CSM background, this is not going to be the job for you. This role makes you feel like I work in debt collections because it’s all asinine billing calls- with low tier clients who really don’t have an understanding of anything, even basic competency. I would say, in more than half of your daily interactions with clients- you will be deeply harassed by them, so do not be surprised. I am no stranger to high stress, hard work, but this is a different level. Internally, things run absolutely terribly, I have not seen worse in my professional career thus far. I have worked for multiple Silicon Valley tech companies, so I thought Yelp would be similar internally and have streamlined processes, but this is not the case. There’s a deep lack of general support, teams do not communicate with one another, and there are major inconsistencies and discrepancies on day to day operations. I mean it, there’s an egregious lack of basic structure, and everyone suffers because of it- including (most importantly) the clients. I’ve never worked for such a large company that operates so poorly. They are the reason for most of their pain points, I truly believe it’s a choice. Like someone else already stated in another review, they desperately need a leadership overhaul. They need external hires within leadership to set them back on track. The turnover rate for this role is extremely high, you think you know “high”- it’s higher. This is not your, “typical San Francisco company”, they do not embody the culture at all. I truly question their ethics. I took this job as a last resort, so only get on board if you have absolutely no other choice- I wouldn’t even utilize this role as an entry to get further into the company, because you can tell, it’s not just this position, there’s a systemic issue deep within the company. The way they operate is NOT normal and I don’t think the well tenured people are aware how unhealthy the internal operations are because they don’t know anything else other than Yelp. Do yourself a favor, listen to the reviews. It really is that bad!

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience on our team was anything less than what you had hoped for. The managers at Yelp are devoted to the career growth of each individual here, and our management style at Yelp is very hands-on. To some, his may feel like micro-management. Our goal is to give ample support for our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. This sometimes includes things like dropping in on calls to assist with closing deals or managers having team check-ins multiple times per day to ensure everyone is on-track to achieve their goals. We know this approach is not for everyone, but we've created a successful and supportive environment through this strategy. With that being said, a career in sales of any kind comes with a fair set of challenges. We focus on rewarding every person with a competitive compensation package centered on much more than just a paycheck. Our compensation package is designed to support our employees' physical and mental well-being and focuses on what our employees value most, which is total rewards. This includes health benefits, 401(k) matching, paid time off programs, family forming support, and mental health services, to name a few. Each employee's story and perspective are unique, and it only makes sense that we offer benefits and perks to support every part of them. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

      Pros

Great base pay, remote work, excellent benefits, and your experience is very manager-dependent, though you can move managers after training

      Cons

Hearing no and "Yelp doesn't work" a million times a day is tough when you work remotely. In an office you can chat with your team and know that it generally works for businesses, but remotely really isolates you for cold calling sales.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're glad to hear that you've had an overall positive experience on our team so far. We recognize that cold calling is really challenging, not just at Yelp, but anywhere you do it, and hearing “no” frequently is one of the toughest parts of the role. In addition, we’re continuously looking for ways to foster connection and support for our remote team members. Thank you for being part of the Yelp team!
