I have been working at Acuity Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employer and employees work together to support new hires and create an excellent onboarding experience. Mentors are assigned to each new hire, but each employee is genuinely interested in a new hire's development and is generous with their time. Acuity sponsors many events and offers employees various opportunities to meet their team members, other team members, and employees in other departments.

    Cons

As of now, there are none to report.

    Advice to Management

To continue growing such a wonderful culture.

I have been working at Acuity Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The culture at Acuity is incredible. Most outsiders would be surprised that an insurance company based in Wisconsin could be such a great place to work. I was skeptical about the hype throughout the recruiting process, but it lives up to all of its "Best Place to Work" awards. The leadership, especially the CEO, seems to be genuinely interested in employee happiness, so they invest a ton of money and effort in social...

    Cons

Low turnover can be a blessing and a curse. Some have the classic "it's always been done this way" attitude, but they're generally not in leadership positions, so it's more of an annoyance than a real obstacle in most cases. Also, Sheboygan is definitely homogenous, but it'd be nice to see more diversity.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work on the culture front. Have a program to identify the top performers and reward them, but don't keep bad apples around for the sake of being able to boast about low turnover. Keep pushing agile to stay efficient

I have been working at Acuity Insurance full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Acuity emphasizes the employee experience (great benefits, perks, and facilities), which in turn results in a unique culture. Employees are positive, which makes working with others more enjoyable (nearly everyone I see greets me with a smile and hello even when I was a new employee). Leadership is very accessible and willing to connect. The company provides several outlets to listen to their employees, which results...

    Cons

Acuity is very transparent and provides outlets for making suggestions, however, these suggestions are typically only implemented if they have to do with the building, the property or a familiar Acuity process. If the idea is something Acuity has not done prior in the business setting, it is an uphill battle to be taken seriously regardless of your expertise. We have not been surveyed as a company in awhile, so I wonder...

    Advice to Management

Trust new ideas from proven individuals. It must be challenging to see ways to improve a process when you are managing a teams success. Seek out new ideas and try them more often. Don't shy away from providing constructive feedback. Speak on behalf of high performing employees, listen to their ideas, and ensure you retain them.

I have been working at Acuity Insurance full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Overall Acuity is a great place to work. Most departments have flexible hours, the health care, dental, vision and 401k they provide it top notch. It is an open environment where people are encouraged to share their ideas. There are a lot of events that Acuity puts on to show that they care about their employees.

      Cons

Depending on the department you work in, standards and expectations vary widely. There are a lot of young employees because the company has grown so much in the last few years. This can cause a bit of a bottle neck as everyone is learning together. Sometimes management does not take ideas from new employees seriously.

      Advice to Management

Overall management of the company does a good job to boost moral and move the company in a direction to be successful. Middle management could work on treating everyone as equals and having a more open mind. Sometimes people tend to get defensive when their ideas are questioned instead of having an open mind and trying to work together to figure out the best solution.

I have been working at Acuity Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Great pay for area Great 401k (at this time 8%, but usually give 2-2.5% bonus at end of year) HSA card with $3000 on it to pay the $4000 deductible (this is if on family plan) Five year club (during first 5 years they pay for new employees to go do stuff in town with other employees) Occasional free breakfast or lunch Seemingly very stable Nice gym

      Cons

Employees are supposed to have flex time to be able to take off whenever they want for whatever they want, but my manager does not allow that. Only allows for appointments and such. Most teams in the company are more flexible than this. Some managers micromanage while others are pretty hands off.

      Advice to Management

Have more trust in your employees. They do not like to be micromanaged.

I worked at Acuity Insurance full-time

      Pros

Great benefits, salary and profit share

      Cons

Must have an expansive grasp of many lines of coverage and practices. Think ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’

      Advice to Management

More training, but also narrow the role. Allow the rep to become an ‘expert’ in a few main areas, then gradually expand that role.
