I have been working at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Role is challenging but rewarding. Truly feel that my direct Manager values my input and ideas and is dedicated to improving our department.

Office Perks - Corporate Office has a free gym on site with great work out classes offered. Coffee bar and sushi bar in cafeteria. Nice outdoor work spaces and either a treadmill or bike desk on every floor.

    Cons

For corporate headquarters, you will need to live in the suburbs or have a car. It's difficult to get to from downtown.

    Pros

Highly ethical organization in a sea of unethical competitors. Strong focus on sales and operations, which means all employees are valued regardless of role.

    Cons

    I cannot think of any.

    Advice to Management

Implement a formal merit planning process that is more objective.

I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Job Security, good work life balance, good work for the detail oriented, individual teams can be great.

    Cons

non competitive salaries and benefits, "Unless you have a book of business, you are expendable", the only way to get a raise is to leave.

    Advice to Management

Management constantly talks about the age problem in the industry and stress about the imminent wave of retirements. Yet AJG offers zero incentives to attract talented support staff. Why would I put up with the repetitive work and corporate culture when I'm underpaid with terrible benefits?

I worked at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

fancy building/parking, benefits, & great pay. People are good. It depends in what department you work if you will be happy with environment or not.

    Cons

How they(HQ Requirement) think: "Pay employees more then they are worth and they will work like horses," that is what they are implying with their work volume and high pay. But honestly it ant that bad if your fine with being a hamster on a wheel and then coming home feeling so drained and unsatisfied (because your work is never finished, unless you work for free) that you cant even use your brain. Its strange they don't do drug tests upon employment or during employment. Probably because they think your urine is not worth $20. Probably if you fill a career role(60k salary or more) your effort would be decently rewarded. But if your getting less then 40k its just not worth that kind of effort.

    Pros

    Work space is very nice

    Cons

Pay scale does not keep up/change with cost of living, changing demands of the job, other Account Assistant TPA positions.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with growing costs of living for all employees, not just account Managers and Supervisors.

I have been working at Gallagher full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy the work that I do, and the people I work with. Nice HQ in Rolling Meadows, IL.

    Cons

“We will not be paying much, if any, U.S. federal income tax for many years to come,” CFO Howell said this spring during a conference call with investors.

This is a quote from Gallagher's CFO from an article in Insurance Journal magazine from December of 2018. We are an insurance brokerage firm, yet the article explains that we have invested 25% of our holdings in coal, apparently, for the sole purpose of government subsidies. Apparently this subsidy costs US Taxpayers more than $1 billion annually. This investment was kept under wraps internally, which leads me to believe leadership is aware of the optics.

I'm ashamed to work for a company who is so proud to not pay taxes. When companies like Gallagher shirk their responsibilities to pay taxes it increases the tax burden on honest people like me. It disgusts me to see people and companies go to such lengths to avoid paying taxes. Avoiding taxes is the least patriotic thing we can do and we shouldn't feign patriotism by flying the American flag outside our headquarters.

    Advice to Management

Focus on Insurance Brokerage, stay in your lane. The least you could do is share your tax benefits with employees - instead Galllagher benefits are arguably the most expensive options on the market, and pay raises were very difficult to come by in 2018.
