I have been working at InVision Human Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Two and a half day block shifts with four and a half days off. Lots of opportunities for overtime if you are willing and able to do it.

    Cons

You are expected to stay overnight without pay at the individuals home. Coworkers and supervisors can be very unproffesional with their interactions with individuals and other staff. There are a lot of cliques, crossing boundaries, and inappropriate relationships between support staff and supervisors so when a long time DSP is crossing boundaries, not doing their job accordingly or working well with other co-workers the supervisors will often times ignore your concerns about a co-worker. There is a lot of bullying and work place harrassment that goes on among co-workers and if you report it to a supervisor you are considered to be the whiner, nothing gets fixed, and the work place harrassment continues. Most of InVisions clients have very significant mental health challenges and can be a danger to themselves and staff so, when you are by yourself in a crisis at work you will receive very little support from an emergency on-call supervisor. Due to the significant mental health challenges of some individuals and the long block shifts their is a very high turn over rate so good luck with finding long term stable, rewarding employment with this organization.

    Advice to Management

It is normal to develope friendships in a work place but, importantly you all must remember your roles as supervisors and managers. Good leaders are impartial and look at situations from all sides. Mabey offering 8 hour shifts instead of block shifts for the harder to staff more challenging individuals will help keep those individuals homes staffed since 56 hour block shifts is a lot of hours to be spending with an individual who has challenging behaviors which lead to staff burn out.

    Pros

Very good working environment with well grounded management team. Good working benefit, culturally diverse, and a place for growth.

    Cons

The work schedule is based on block shifts which sometimes interferes with daily life schedule. But if you can navigate through it you should be fine then.

    Advice to Management

Make available all the necessary assistance to employees

I have been working at InVision Human Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not a lot to mention besides a 3 day work week. If you don't mind being cut, slapped and spit on, then this is a great job for you. You will be hurt sometime while working at the group homes. If you are trying to sleep at night be careful because your bedroom door may be kicked down.

    Cons

I was violently attacked by their client and the company just had me examined by their list of doctors. Clients are dangerous and should not be in group homes. They are much stronger then the staff and can hurt you instantly.

    Advice to Management

Each client should be supervised by at least 2 staff per individual. They cost the company a lot of money in workman's compensation and can cause great harm to themselves , the staff and the general public.

I worked at InVision Human Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours tailored to you, as well as a great training program, and lastly a supportive staff.

    Cons

Low opportunity for growth in regards to your position. Also, I had trouble contacting my supervisor. Last, the costs that go into gas and car depreciation cuts into your pay. They do offer reimbursement for gas while you are at work and the difference of your house to the companies and clients, but not on the way back.

    Advice to Management

Pay supervisors to answer calls on weekends.

    Pros

Challenging, yet satisfying job. A lot of autonomy in the job.

    Cons

Some clients get away with more than they should repeatedly.

    Advice to Management

Form a rotating group of staff so that you get more of an on the ground feedback of what actually goes on in houses.
