Pros

Pretty easy job, easy to learn. This is my first sales job and I feel like I cought on pretty fast. They’re also very flexible of my college schedule. My base salary is 24,000 and it’s pretty easy to reach 30,000 through commission your first year. The first 3 months they offered me ramp up so they paid me a higher salary instead of commission which was helpful because I was still learning how to sell.

Cons

Can’t trust my agent. She lowered my base salary without telling me and only raised it back up after I called her out on it. I had to ask a total of 4 times to be paid what we agreed to. I work for a new agent and she’s a huge micro manager. She tracks our phone calls, goes back over our opportunities to nit pick our follow up, and she’s started sitting behind us while we make phone calls to listen to us. It’s clear she doesn’t trust us to do our job right and everyone in the office can feel it. Her husband is an agent at a different office and will work in his best interest instead of ours. She HAS to be at all of our appointments, especially if it’s for life insurance, so she can take it over and not let you speak. She steals leads and stays late so she can take the leads instead of letting them roll over to the next morning. She doesn’t think I know the difference between whole life and term life. Literally. She explains it to me every time. She doesn’t think we know the difference between gross and net income either. It’s insulting. I really wanted to love this job but unfortunately I’m already looking for other jobs because I can’t work for someone I don’t trust. Oh and she doesn’t offer ANY benefits.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
