Google Software Engineer, Machine Intelligence interview questions

The interviewer was kind and started quickly with the problem definition. The task was to implement and create some theoretical string realted algorithm. I applied for a job in machine learning and was asked to implement an algorithm, which had nothing to do with what I am working with for the last 2+ years, so I failed at it. As an AI company, google should adjust its interview process. I don´t spend my spare time to learn fancy google interview algorithms, if I can do something AI related in this time.
