Initially I requested an informational interview about a new job in a new department, wanting to know more about the function of both. I had a one on one interview that was very nice and respectful. I then had a formal interview, and was very open about the areas in which I excelled, as well as the areas where I might need further training, etc. I felt like I had a chance at the job and continued in the pool. I was called back for a second job in the same department, with different functions, but found out that I was technically not eligible because I had received a promotion into my current job within the company within 6 months of time. You are obligated to stay in a position for 6 months after you get a promotion. I think there were other higher qualified people who had been interviewed, and this gave HR an easy out to eliminate me from the pool, though this rule is apparently very rarely broken.
