Pros

Compensation and benefits. Large company, one can move around the country relatively easily. The most important thing is that it is a very recognizable company on one's resume. Great co-workers

Cons

The claims environment is : chaotic, inconsistent, not-supportive, nepotism oriented, non realistic as far as goals and uncaring for its customers. Micromanaged to the core, you will be watched, your phone calls will be listened by the whole office ( management and peers in group sessions) as well as all your performance posted on every office wall. Inconsistent with policies from one week to the other, after which your whole performance will be reviewed accordingly to the ultimate change, even though in between you have been advised the exact opposite. Corporate training is decent but exiguous and not necessarily realistic; on the job training non existent. Managers behave as if bothered if asked questions and humiliate employees ( often in group settings) with snide remarks and call outs. It is an "open to all" claims environment into which basically all adjusters have decision rights and are obliged to take fast decisions in all the claims that are called in. Many times these decisions are contradictory. The claimants and customers are deceived by staff ( often poorly trained). Metrics and QA are ridiculous. You have basically no support in your job but will be criticized for the minutest mistakes (that are often subjective according to the reviewer). Low morale among employees. Primitive, cheap, idiotic software that makes one's job more difficult than it should be. Often advised to lowball claims after which you will be judged harshly if customer not satisfied.

Pros

Good benefits. Generous 401k match

Cons

Started my career at Liberty Mutual as a Workers' Compensation intern. In the beginning, everything was going well. The workload was demanding, but I genuinely enjoyed the job and the work I was doing. One year later, I got promoted to claim adjuster. Things changed after my manager was seriously injured in a car accident. The department director took over managing our team, and the work environment became completely different. She was extremely rude and practiced excessive micromanagement. She expected me not to take any PTO if my work wasn't completely finished, even when I needed time off because my grandmother had suddenly passed away. The constant pressure and lack of empathy took a serious toll on my mental health. I developed depression during that time and eventually had to seek help from a psychologist. In the end, I decided to leave Liberty Mutual. It was one of the best decisions I made for my well-being, and I would not consider returning to the company.
