Amazon Machine Vision Software Engineer interview questions

A recruiter conttected me and set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. The first question was about a kidnappers ransom note made of cut out letters from a magazine and how I would read it. I simply told the interviewer I would just read the letter and be done with it.. It went downhill from there. The interviewer had a very heavy accent and I had much trouble understanding the persons conversation. The person was very kind, professional and helpful. I explained my approach to reading the ransom note using machine vision, asked plenty of questions to clarify requirements and in general, the interviewer disclaimed most of my knowledge related to solving a machine vision problem that, at least according to the question first asked of 'how would you read the ransom note' and my answer of 'I would simply read it' - seemed innately disconnected from each other. In genera,l I could not understand what the intervier was getting at. It was about a week ago and I am supposed to hear back someday. Overall the position sounded extremely interesting.
