Electrical Engineer Interview

Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lockheed Martin (New York, NY).

Interview

Was contacted by a HR recruiter following submission of application to job portal. They were nice enough to arrange travel to their location on their dime. Went through a standard presentation of what the company was about, then myself and other applicants were told to wait in a common area to speak with hiring manager. Typically, you speak to two or three of them at a time to find your fit. The interview is more behavioral and less technical - they will still ask a few technical questions, but also be ready for the STAR format stuff.

Interview Questions

  • Describe the most technically challenging project you have ever done? Was it alone or in a group?   Answer Question

    Interview

I received an invitation to the interview without even a phone screen, straight after applying on their website. They flew me in, and I interviewed at their site in New York. They didn't ask me too many technical questions, but they showed me all the labs and projects I would be working on in case I got hired. I got a soft offer from them and right now in the process of negotiating.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Lockheed Martin in February 2012.

    Interview

Lockheed Martin reached out to me after my hiring manager found my resume in their system from an online application I had submitted about 3 months prior. From there they contacted me about doing an on-site interview at their Sunnvyale, CA facility. Travel was paid for, interview was 3-4 30-minute interviews with members of HR and my hiring manager. All questions were behavioral (no technical), they using a process called STAR (situation, task, action, result). Questions were along the lines of: "talk about a situation where you had a communication breakdown, and how you resolved it" and "talk about a time when you had a particularly successful team experience, and why it was successful".

    Interview

I ran into a hiring manager in the hallway. He was lost and I helped him find where he wanted to go. I saw he had a Lockheed shirt on so I asked him about the place. That question turned into a 20 minute conversation and he gave me an interview.

The interview was pretty straightforward. No technical questions, all character questions. Got an offer for a position a couple of weeks later.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Lockheed Martin (Santa Maria, CA) in April 2010.

    Interview

I interviewed with Lockheed Martin during my final quarter at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. The odd thing was that I interviewed with recruiters from Houston looking for software engineers, and as I was a power engineer, I thought the interview was a waste of time. A month or so later I was contacted by a division of Lockheed Martin that was hiring within 20 miles of my home in Arroyo Grande.

    Interview Questions

    • As I was highly trained in facility type power distribution, and the job was for this specialty, I had very little trouble with the inview questions. I think I knew more about the subject than the interviewers.   Answer Question
