Top Associate Interview Questions & How to Answer

Here are three top associate interview questions and how to answer them:

Question #1: Explain a situation that demonstrates that you are a team player.

How to answer: Since an associate usually works as part of a team, the interviewer wants to see how you work with others and if you can perform well in a group. Provide a specific example of when you worked with a team to accomplish a goal. Make sure to focus on team performance and not just your individual performance. Make sure to state the team's goal and how you reached it.

Question #2: Describe a time you were able to resolve an issue with a difficult customer or client.

How to answer: When answering this question, make sure to describe the steps you took to resolve the situation. For example, you started by deescalating the situation, calmed the customer down and showed empathy by actively listening. You should then explain how you created a solution that worked for the client and the company, and then finish by stating what you came up with for a solution and describe how the situation turned out.

Question #3: Tell me about a suggestion you made that benefited the organization you worked for.

How to answer: This is an opportunity to show the interviewer how you can think and act beyond your position. Have an example ready before the interview, making sure it is something higher management accepted and positively influenced. Your answer should show that you have ambition and are willing to go above and beyond.

Contacting my Clients. Sometimes when starting out you do not have clients and I recommend asking friends and family to ask around for people to come in and as well posting events online and in neighborhoods. It sounds foolish but you will notice a difference in your paycheck and when you meet your goals and pre-sales. Less

Best Buy

Why would you recommend Monster HDMI cables versus generic brand?

4 Answers

Monster HDMI cables have higher quality components that reduce interference, meaning a sharper picture and better audio. Plus it will last longer. Less

Yeah, monster cables are TOTAL ripoffs, but it's where bestbuy has their greatest overhead and may make much more profit selling a monster cable than they would selling a television or game console. I agree with Tom: very sad, but it's what they want to hear :P Less

This is likely the answer they are looking for, but is mostly false. HDMI is digital signaling, so there is no degradation - if the signal makes it over the cable, it is in it's original and unblemished form. The quality of the cable carrying the signal makes no difference in this case. Analog cables are a different story. The only part of this statement that is true is that a higher quality product will, obviously, last longer than a lower quality one. Less

Basically I mentioned that I would want to know what was happening with my existing competitors. Where they experiencing the same thing? In the end, the answer the interviewer was looking for was.....Yes, sales/revenue was increasing for Chips Ahoy, but the cookie category was growing at a faster rate (because of new entrants into the category) than sales/revenue. Sell me this tape dispenser.

3 Answers

Introduce yourself the the "customer" - Hi, I'm bla bla bla, im going to sell you shiii... Ask questions..."what kind of dispenser do you have now?" "what do you find important in a dispenser?"... Recommend the item you are selling, based on what you now know of the "customer" - "I know you need double sided tape that is reliably sticky, at an affordable price, you should check out this brand." Ask them if they want to buy it, by saying- "do you want me to ring this up?" or "do you want this black one, or would you like the white one from the back room?" Less

I would of said , sorry sir we don’t sell tape dispensar.

Need to be able to show you can highlight some of the positive attributes of the tape dispenser, and while you're at it, you might as well pick something else up from the desk and try to package it together with the tape dispenser. Less
