DataTrek is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join us on supporting a government-facing client. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role centered on data engineering, building dashboards, analytical applications, and BI solutions that help senior government leaders make informed decisions — even when requirements aren’t fully defined from the start.
You’ll combine strong data engineering fundamentals with a sharp eye for data visualization and user experience. You know how to take ambiguous, high-level asks from executives and translate them into polished, actionable products. You’re equally comfortable writing a pipeline as you are designing a dashboard — and you know which one is needed when.
Timeframe: 12 months Initial (W-2 only)
Experience: 5+ years
Work Model: Remote
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (preferred)
Citizenship & Clearance Requirements: U.S. citizenship is required. Active Minimum DoD Secret clearance is required
What You’ll Be Doing -
Dashboards, Applications & BI Development
- Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and analytical applications for senior government stakeholders
- Translate vague or high-level requirements from government leadership into clear, well-scoped deliverables - and drive them to completion
- Create compelling data visualizations that surface insights from complex datasets in a clear and actionable way
- Own the end-to-end delivery of BI products: from requirement gathering and wireframing through build, QA, and handoff
- Partner with stakeholders to iterate on solutions as requirements evolve, using strong communication skills to align expectations
Data Engineering & Pipeline Support
- Build and maintain data pipelines in Databricks and Palantir Foundry to power dashboards and analytics products
- Work with large, complex datasets and transform them into clean, reliable data models ready for reporting and visualization
- Design and implement data integration solutions from various source systems as needed to support delivery
- Ensure data quality, performance, and reliability across pipelines and downstream analytics outputs
- Collaborate with team members using Git for version control and code collaboration
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Engage directly with senior government officials to understand strategic goals, even when formal requirements are undefined or incomplete
- Facilitate working sessions to extract requirements, validate designs, and gather feedback from non-technical leadership
- Document solutions clearly and explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to non-technical audiences at all levels
- Act as a trusted technical advisor - proactively flagging issues, proposing solutions, and communicating status with transparency
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or BI Developer
- Demonstrated experience building dashboards and analytical applications (e.g., in Palantir Foundry, Tableau, or similar platforms)
- Strong experience with Databricks and Palantir
- Solid SQL skills and hands-on experience with Python and PySpark
- Experience working in cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Proven ability to work directly with senior or executive stakeholders and turn ambiguous requirements into deliverables
- Strong communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to present technical findings clearly
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership and drive work forward independently
Nice to Have
- Experience working in government or regulated environments
- Familiarity with data governance, security, or compliance standards
- Experience building custom analytical applications or lightweight front-end tools on top of data platforms
- Background in UX/design thinking or data storytelling principles
- Experience supporting data science or advanced analytics teams
